DAILY TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 1979 BEDFORD YOUTH DIES IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH A 17-year-old Bedford youth died instantly Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding went out of control on the city's east side and crashed. The victim is identified as Harry David Moore, 17, son of Norma Moore, 717 'I' Street. The accident occurred on a private road known as the Blue Hole Quarry Road approximately 1/4 mile north of Sixteenth Street. The fatality is the first involving a motor vehicle within the city in 1979. The time of death is listed at 4:15 p.m. The youth was a student at Bedford North Lawrence High School. He reportedly died of a broken neck and a possible skull fracture. An investigation by Bedford police is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Police reports indicate the vehicle was traveling downgrade on the rocky road at a high rate of speed. Police believe the cycle struck a steel cable stretched across the road, hurling the youth 25-feet from the point of impact. The vehicle continued downgrade 125 feet where it landed in a bushy area 100-feet off the road. Police were unable to find a helmet. The motorcycle was a 1972 Yamaha 360, registered to Mike Reynolds, 207 N Street. Reynolds said he had traded the cycle to Moore for a car a couple days ago but an unclear title to the car prevented legal completion of the transaction. Harry Moore was born in Bedford on July 24, 1961, a son of David Elmer and Norma Gilson Moore. His father died in 1970. He was of the Christian faith. Surviving are the mother; one brother, Gary, and two sisters, Tiane and Shelly, all at home; one half-sister, Della Mae Shipman of Alabama; and the paternal Grandmother, Flora Krenke of Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson - Lee Funeral Home, Bro. Don Oelze officiating. Burial will be in Linthicum Cemetery.
