TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA MONDAY, NOV 27, 1961 Former Oolitic Man Dies In Gary Wreck; Three Are Hurt In Local Accidents Roger Worak Killed, Glen Mitchell, Charles Jenkins, Bud McDermed Hospitalized A former Oolitic man has been killed near Gary, Ind., and three other persons – an ambulance driver, his attendant, and a Route 2 motorist – were hospitalized here with injuries suffered in two separate local wrecks, one blamed on the other. Killed instantly when thrown from his car on Chase Road at the outskirts of Gary Sunday, was Roger Earl Worak, 26, son of Lewis Worak, 505 J street, and nephew of Times-Mail Accountant Paul R. Kern. Hurt in a wild set of mishaps on the Fayetteville Road about 1:30 this morning and later hospitalized were: Charles Jenkins, 31, 1213 Second street, multiple facial cuts and leg injuries. George N. (Bud) McDermed, 29, 1032 P street, his attendant, crushed foot and severe head an face lacerations. And Glen E. Mitchell, 22, Route 2, broken left leg and cuts. Twenty-six-year-old Worak, father of four, died of a broken neck yesterday to become one of 17 traffic fatalities recorded in the state for the long Thanksgiving Holiday. Information reaching the Times-Mail indicated Worak was starting to pass a car driven by Richard Harris of Hobart, also a former resident of the Bedford area, when the accident happened. Harris pulled out to pass another car, reports said, and Worak dodge, hitting some parked auto. The impact threw Worak out. He died of a broken neck, fractured skull and crushed chest. A passenger riding with him was not hurt. Funeral services for Worak have been set for 2:00 p.m. tomorrow in the Brady Funeral Home in East Gary, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, there. Worak’s last address was listed as 440 North Liberty, Hobart. Relatives here said he was married in Oolitic on May 11, 1952, to Phyllis Kludt of Gary. She survives along wit four children- Roger, 8; Rodney, 7; Robert, 2, and Debra, 1. Other survivors include the father here; the mother, Mrs. Wilma Gilbert, East Gary; the grandfather, Frank kern of Oolitic; two uncles Arthur Kern of Indianapolis and Paul of the Times-Mail; an aunt Mrs. Leo Sears of Oolitic and one half-sister, not named. Worak was born on March 28, 1935, the family said. NOTE: Rest of article is missing.
