    3. DAILY TIMES-MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA MONDAY, MARCH 9, 1959 DR. BYERS SUCCUMBS AT RESIDENCE Last Rites Are Set For 2 P.M. Wednesday Dr. Norman R. Byers of 1503 Twenty-second street, a practicing physician in Bedford for 27 yeas prior to his retirement in 1948, died at 1:45 o'clock this morning at his residence. He would have been 64 tomorrow. Dr. Byers was one of Bedford's leading physicians and for many years he was associated with Dr. Harrison Ragsdale and Dr. John Pearson in the Bedford Clinic. The Clinic was established on Fifteenth street, in the vicinity of the Indiana Theater, and it was moved to the Citizens National Bank Building. The only surviving member of the clinic is Dr. Pearson who is retired and resides in Florida. Dr. Byers was a graduate of Indiana University Medical School with the Class of 1919. He practiced medicine in Bedford from 1921 to 1948. Dr. R. E. Wynne, Lawrence county coroner, attributed Dr. Byers's death to a heart aliment. Dr. Byers had been in poor health since his retirement. Active in social and civic affairs of the community, Dr. Byers was a Veteran of World War I and a member of Gillen Post No. 33, American Legion. He also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a past deacon, the Indiana Medical Association and was past president of the Bedford Kiwanis Club. Ardent Sportsman In his younger years, Dr. Byers was an ardent sportsman, and spent much of his free time hunting and fishing. He was born March 19, 1895, at Oolitic, the son of Lincoln and Jennie Giles Byers. He married Elizabeth Trook March 15, 1922. Surviving are the wife; a son, Larry T. Byers of Bedford; two grandchildren, Bruce Porter Byers and Mary Tulley Byers, both of Bedford; two nephews, Gordon E. Byers of Bedford and Richard L. Byers of Oolitic, and one niece, Mrs. Horace Duncan of Needmore. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Dr. John L. Prentice of Paoli officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Cay & carter Mortuary after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.
