DAILY TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA MONDAY, JUNE 23, 1969 Mrs. Giles Director Of Band, Dies Mrs. Myrtle Giles, 64, band director and music teacher at Oolitic High School for 27 years died at 8:50 a.m. today at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Bedford Heights. Mrs. Giles had been in failing health for several months and was able to teach only the first nine weeks of the 1968-69 School year. She was born at Silverville the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Opal Armstrong. She was a graduate of Bedford High School and received her degree in Music at Indiana University in 1937. She began teaching at Oolitic in 1942 and continued at that School throughout her career. Bands of Mrs. Giles were outstanding and won several contests A few years ago she took the Oolitic band to Holland, Mich., where it participated in the tulip festival. Her bands appeared twice in the 500 Festival parade at Indianapolis. They also appeared at the Persimmon Festival at Mitchell, the Ellettsville fair and at other similar events. She was the widow of Paul Giles. Funeral arrangements and additional details will be announced tomorrow by the Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.
