BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, SEPT. 28, 1900 Benjamin F. Lewis, Trustee of Grassy Fork township, Jackson county, fell from a passenger train on the Pennsylvania road, a short distance south of Scottsburg, late Tuesday night and was killed. Lewis was riding in the smoker and leaving his seat went out on the platform. A moment later he staggered across in front of the door and was seen by one of the passengers to plunge headlong from the train. The Conductor was notified as soon as possible, but the train ran two miles before it could be stopped. The trainmen were sent back with a lantern and Lewis with this skull crushed, was found dead by the side of the track. The remains were taken to Seymour and the dead man's relatives notified. Lewis had been attending the Louisville Carnival. He was 46 years old, and leaves a wife and three children.
