SMITH SUCCUMBS William Howard Smith, 325 west Fifteenth street, Bloomington, passed away at 3:30 a.m. today at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Olin Stotts, at 506 Fourteenth street, Bedford. Mr. Smith, who was 50 years of age, had been ill for two years. He was born October 17, 1908, in Lawrence County to John L. and Clara Turner Smith. He married Ida Baker on February 11, 1929, and she preceded him in death April 13, 1958. He was custodian of the Metropolitan Schools of Bloomington. Surviving relatives include two brothers - Alva Smith and Virgil Otis Smith, both of Bedford; two sisters - Mrs. Rosie Hill of Freetown, Indiana, and Mrs. Agnes Nickless of Oolitic, and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Floyd, preceded him in death in 1950. Final rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary, with Rev. Thomas Bush officiating. Burial will take place in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary, which is in charge of arrangements. MONDAY, MARCH 2, 1959 RITES HELD FOR WILLIAM SMITH Final rites for William Howard Smith, 325 West Fifteenth street, Bloomington, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary, with Rev. Thomas Bush officiating. Mr. Smith died at 3:30 a.m. Friday. During the services, "Going Down The Valley,: "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone" and "Precious Memories" were sung by Mrs. Albert Kruchten and Mrs. Vestal Capshaw. Organ accompaniment was by Mrs. Irvin Mann. Pallbearers were John Dillon, Robert Dillon, Olin Stotts, Lee Allen, Junior Young and Hershel Nickless. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery under the direction of Day & Carter Mortuary.
