TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, JANUARY 16, 1953 Scherschel Rites Are Set Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Diederich Scherschel, 1621 N street, died early Thursday at the Mercy Hospital, Gary, Indiana, will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Mrs. Scherschel, the widow of Fred Scherschel was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. She was born March 21, 1881 to Peter and Catherine Weixel Diederich. Her marriage to Mr. Scherschel took place at Cleveland on May 25, 1903 and her husband died July 5, 1948. Active in the St. Vincent de Paul Church of Bedford of which she was a member, Mrs. Scherschel was affiliated with the Altar Society of the church and belonged to the National Council of Catholic Women. She also participated in the activities of the Farm Bureau Cooperative. Surviving are six sons, Joe of Indianapolis, Paul of Gary, James of Bloomington, and Dr. John P Scherschel, Alfred and Roy Scherschel all of Bedford; three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Saletel and Mrs. Ruth Balombin, both of Cleveland, O., and Miss Virginia Scherschel of Bedford; 32 grandchildren and five sisters, Miss Elizabeth Diederich, Mrs. Marie Wagoner and Mrs. Coletta Story, all of Cleveland, Mrs. Renilda Scherscel of Bedford and Sister Ambrose of Dayton O., Three brothers have preceded her in death. Rosary services will be conducted for Mrs. Scherschel at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Sherwood & Ferguson Funeral Home, where the body will lie in state after 4 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Cresthaven Memorial Park.
