JOSEPH HELTON DEAD Remains Being Returned Here From Denver Colorado For Burial Mrs. James Hirscher, 2212 J street, received a telegram today from her brother, Kenneth Helton, in Denver, Colo., announcing the death there Wednesday of her step-mother, Mrs. Joseph Helton, who succumbed to pneumonia , The deceased was a native of Lawrence county having been born in February, 1860, near Heltonville and before her marriage to Joseph Helton in 1887 was Miss Mabel Brewer, Her entire life, with the exception of the past two years, had been spent in this county, she having moved to Denver in 1927. She was a member of the Heltonville Baptist church. Her husband preceded her to the grave several years ago, She is survived by five children, Kenneth Helton, of Denver; Raleigh Helton, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Eva Peters, of Heltonville; Miss Vera Helton, of Denver; four step-children, Charles Helton, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Gertrude Gillette, Madison. Wis.; Mrs. Leo Sage, Johnson City, Tenn., and Mrs. James Hirscher, of Bedford. A number of grandchildren also survive. Her son. Kenneth, and daughter Miss Vera, are accompanying the body back to this county for burial and are expected to arrive Saturday Definite funeral arrangements will not be made until the funeral party reaches here.

NO FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS After an illness of fourteen weeks David 0. Douglas, residing at Heltonville, died this morning at 2 o'clock. For 14 weeks Mr. Douglas had been suffering with heart trouble and his death was momentarily expected. He was 85 years of age and was well known at Heltonville and the surrounding country; having spent his entire life at Heltonville. Six children survive, three living near Heltonville while one son resides at Bloomington, one in Ohio and one daughter at Muncie, Ind. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made owing. to word which Is expected soon from the son In Ohio.

FUNERAL PROBABLY TUESDAY Thomas Nuttall, a stone worker, died at his home on North I street this morning at 3 o'clock, with organic heart trouble. He had been ill for several months. Mr. Nuttall, with his wife, came to this city about a year ago, from Newark, N. J. and had suffered very poor health practically all of the time since his arrival here. The funeral services will probably be conducted Tuesday, the time and date depending upon the arrival of relatives who are expected from the East.

FUNERAL SUNDAY AT HELTONVILLE Mrs. Retta Todd, a widow aged 72 years, died at her home at Fairview this morning at 12:25 following a stroke of paralysis. She had been an invalid since April and her death was not unlooked for. She had resided in the vicinity of Fairview for years and was well known in that part of the county. Three sons, J. C. Todd, McClelland Todd and S. D. Todd, all residing in this county, survive. The funeral services will be conducted from the M. E. church at Heltonville Sunday forenoon at 11 o'clock. Burial will be at Gilgal.

Helton, passed away this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Browning, resident of First street between M and N following an illness from complications. Mr. Helton only recently preceded her to the grave (Feb 6). She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Fred Browning, Mrs. Robert Meadows, Mrs. Jeff Donica, Mrs. Howard Tanksley and Mrs. Grottie Todd all of this county; one son Elijah Helton, of Bloomington, four sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Helton, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. John D. Rainey, of Heltonville; Mrs. Paulina Pearson of Laurel, Nebraska; Mrs. Gertrude White of Dexter, Iowa; one brother, David Brewer of Heltonville. The deceased united with the Heltonville Baptist church early in life and retained membership there at the time of her death. White definite funeral arrangements have not been made it is expected services will be conducted from the Gilgal church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock followed by internment in the cemetery there. BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2, 1909 PIONEER DEAD Joseph Sherrill, Prominent Farmer Near Vinegar Hill, Answered Last Summons Tuesday Afternoon FUNERAL THURSDAY 1:30 AT TRINITY Joseph Sherrill, a prominent resident of Lawrence county, died at his home near the Vinegar Hill school house, Tuesday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock. He had been in poor health for over two years and had for the last two months been confined to his bed. His condition for some time past had been such that death was momentarily expected. His death was due to liver and stomach trouble. He was 67 years of age and was born and reared on the farm where he died, having resided there his entire life time. One son and one daughter survive: Walter Sherrill, of this city, and Mrs. W. L. Sherrill, east of the city. The funeral services will be in charge of the Masonic order and will be conducted by Elder J. W. Newland from the Trinity church Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Burial will be at Crawford graveyard at 3:30 p.m.

Born April 5, 1890 in Lawrence County she was the daughter of Dawson and Clara Jane (Combs) Clark. She retired in 1955 from RCA Consumer Electronics Inc. She was a member of the Hickory Grove Church in Lawrence County. Survivors include one daughter Lorena Gavin Purcell of Bloomington; one sons William P McKinney of Bloomington; one sister Edith Clark of Bloomington; three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Day Mortuary in Bloomington with the Rev. Glen Bogue officiating. Burial will be in Gilgal Cemetery. Friends may call 3-9 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Survivors in addition to the parents are his wife Margaret Tincher Todd; two children, Brian Lee and Rita Gale Todd, at home; five sisters, Fern Axsom and Mrs. Geneva Kinser, of Columbus, Mrs. Onita Smith of Heltonville, Mrs. Sharon Arthur of Bloomington and Mrs. Irene Smiley of Bozman, Mont.; seven brothers, Otis and Oval Todd, of Nashville, Marion and Elmer Todd of Smithville, Gerald and Wayne Todd of Heltonville, and Alfred Todd of Bloomington. He was born April 20, 1901 in Lawrence County, the son of William Marion and Derotha Ora (Clark) Todd. He was employed by the state highway department and was a member of the Chapel Hill Pentecostal Church. Surviving are the wife, Izolla (Hawkins), seven sons, Otis and Oval Todd, both of Nashville, Marion and Alfred Todd both of Bloomington, Elmer Todd of Norman and Gerald and Wayne Todd both of Heltonville, five daughters, Fern Axsom and Geneva Kinser, both of Columbus, Irene Smiley of Chicago, Ill. Cooper , 58 years old, Monon section hand residing tin a farm about a mile north of Georgia in Marion township, who dropped dead at 2:45 o'clock Friday afternoon while at work on the Monon railroad track about a mile and a half north of Mitchell from a hear(t) attack, will he held at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene in charge of Rev. C. L. Thornburg, with burial in the Mitchell cemetery. The body was removed to the Haverly mortuary in Mitchell for burial preparation following death and this afternoon will be taken to the home to remain over night and will be returned to the Haverly mortuary Sunday forenoon and lie in state there until the funeral hour. Coroner O, D. Emerson, after an investigation, rendered a verdict that acute myocarditis had caused death. Mr. Cooper was a member of Odd Fellow's Lodge No. 212 in Mitchell. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Rosa Lee Cooper, nine children and three? brothers, George and Ira Cooper ,Marion township, Jasper Cooper, Lafayette and Clarence Cooper , Indianapolis. He had been in the employe of the Monon railroad company for the past twenty- five years.

Hoopingarner Dies In Hospital Kent James Hoopingarner, 56 years old, veteran of World War I, died July 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Billings Veterans Hospital, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis after an illness of five weeks. He was born March 20, 1892 at Townsend, Ind. to Isaac N and Florence Sallee Hoopingarner. He was married in January 1919 to Miss Florence Bunlingame at Syracuse. N. Y. who survives. Other survivors are his son, Elbert Kent Hoopingarner, Syracuse. N. Y., his mother. Washington county, and four sisters, Mrs. Lola Newton, Ganon City, Colorado, Mrs. Leah Phillips, Mrs. Elsa Hayes and Mrs. Dorothy Dodd. all of Lawrence county. His father and three brothers have preceded him In death. He was a sergeant in Company C 49th infantry having enlisted April 17, 1917, at Ft. Logan, Colorado. He was discharged June 4, 1919. He was a member of the White River Baptist Church at Buddha. member of the American Legion Post No. 195 at Campbellsburg. He was also a member of the I. O. O. F. lodges at Campbellsburg and New Albany. Funeral services will be conducted at the Day and Carter chapel Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev, A. E. Chastain of Monroe City in charge, Burial will take place at Tunnelton. Following burial preparation the body will be taken to the home of his daughter. Mrs. Tom Dodd, Palestine Road, at ten o'clock Wednesday, where it will lie in state.

He had been in failing health for five years and his final illness was of only three days duration. The son of Cad and Carrie Canaway Cates, he was born in Elizabethtown, Ky., June 20, 1905. He married Daisy Raglan in Bloomington, who preceded him in death May 24, 1948. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Elizabethtown, Ky. Survivors are his mother and a step-father Mr. and Mrs. William Wintersmith, of Bedford; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bonds, of Richmond, Calif.; two brothers, Harry Cates of Bedford and John Cates of Louisville, Ky.; a step-son Herbert George of Bedford; two half-sisters, Mrs. Frances Washington of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Nancy George of Bedford; two half-brothers Aneal Wintersmith of Chicago, Ill and James E. Wintersmith, of Lake Charles, La., and a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins. The body was prepared for burial at the Sherwood & Ferguson Chapel and will lie in state there. Funeral services will be held at the Sherwood & Ferguson Chapel at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Brother Porter, o Bloomington officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

B. and Mary Ellen Driscol Wesner and was born in Jackson county June 18, 1874. He married Hattie Stratton August 13, 1936, who survives. Kansas. Funeral services will be conducted from the Hague Funeral Home in Medora at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Waldron officiating, Burial will be in the Dixon Chapel Cemetery near Fort Ritner.

Teague, 88, of 523 Fifteenth street, died at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday at the Keller Nursing home. He had been in failing health for eight months. A retired carpenter, Mr. Teague was born September 22, 1872 in Lawrence County, the son of James E. and Mollie Ikerd Teague. He married Minta L. Wever, June 24, 1899, who preceded him in death, June 26, 1960. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ray Dougherty, of Bedford; one son Roy Teague of Columbus, Indiana; one grandson Raymond L. Dougherty of Bedford; one great grandson Raymond Michael Dougherty of Bedford and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Drake of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Clifford Beckenhauser of Indianapolis. Mr. Teague attended the First Christian Church of Bedford. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Elmwood chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev.
