The victim is identified as Harry David Moore, 17, son of Norma Moore, 717 'I' Street. The accident occurred on a private road known as the Blue Hole Quarry Road approximately 1/4 mile north of Sixteenth Street. The fatality is the first involving a motor vehicle within the city in 1979. The time of death is listed at 4:15 p.m. The youth was a student at Bedford North Lawrence High School. He reportedly died of a broken neck and a possible skull fracture. An investigation by Bedford police is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Police reports indicate the vehicle was traveling downgrade on the rocky road at a high rate of speed. Police believe the cycle struck a steel cable stretched across the road, hurling the youth 25-feet from the point of impact.
