Born July 13, 1916, In Brown County, she was the daughter of Ray and Vira (Greathouse) Freese. She retired from Roviar Sportswear in 1981 with 36 years of service. She was a member of the Mount Nebo United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Neal Freese of Brown County and Glen Freese of Freetown; two sisters, Pauline Smith and Crystal Roscoe, both of Columbus; several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband Keith Thompson, In 1946; one daughter, Phyllis Kay Thompson; one sister, Geneva Hobson, and two brothers, Paul Freese and Howard Freese. A sister, Geneva Freese Hobson, died Thursday. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dustin-Bond Serenity Chapel in Nashville with David Isom and Jeff Harris officiating. Burial will be at Christianburg Cemetery.

TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, JANUARY 16, 1953 Scherschel Rites Are Set Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Diederich Scherschel, 1621 N street, died early Thursday at the Mercy Hospital, Gary, Indiana, will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Mrs. Scherschel, the widow of Fred Scherschel was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. She was born March 21, 1881 to Peter and Catherine Weixel Diederich. Her marriage to Mr. Scherschel took place at Cleveland on May 25, 1903 and her husband died July 5, 1948. Active in the St. Vincent de Paul Church of Bedford of which she was a member, Mrs. Scherschel was affiliated with the Altar Society of the church and belonged to the National Council of Catholic Women. She also participated in the activities of the Farm Bureau Cooperative. Surviving are six sons, Joe of Indianapolis, Paul of Gary, James of Bloomington, and Dr. John P Scherschel, Alfred and Roy Scherschel all of Bedford; three daughters, Mrs. Catherine Saletel and Mrs. Ruth Balombin, both of Cleveland, O., and Miss Virginia Scherschel of Bedford; 32 grandchildren and five sisters, Miss Elizabeth Diederich, Mrs. Marie Wagoner and Mrs. Coletta Story, all of Cleveland, Mrs. Renilda Scherscel of Bedford and Sister Ambrose of Dayton O., Three brothers have preceded her in death. Rosary services will be conducted for Mrs. Scherschel at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Sherwood & Ferguson Funeral Home, where the body will lie in state after 4 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Cresthaven Memorial Park.

BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 1900 Seymour, Ind., April 20. The charred remains of Engineer George Crane and Fireman Frank Reynolds, who went down in the wreck at Cochran, were found this afternoon in an unrecognizable condition lying at the bottom of the creek under a pile of burning timbers. The remains of George Crane were brought here at 11 o'clock tonight and taken to his home. He was thirty-two years old and left a widow, formerly Miss Berdie Kelso, and two small children. He was raised at Medora and secured a position on the road as fireman, and was promoted to engineer over a year ago. Fireman Reynolds married Miss Anna Wesner, of Medora, last October. He was twenty-three years old, and his body will be taken to Sparksville for interment. The wrecked train was composed of thirty-three cars, of which twenty were loaded with live stock, not one of which was injured. The cars were destroyed by the fire, two of which were loaded with whiskey, one with eggs, one with fresh beef, one with poultry, one with smoked meats and the others with general merchandise. It was the most costly wreck that has occurred on the road for many years.

DAILY TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1956 Former Local Man Dies Homer H Johnson, 64 year - old former Lawrence and Martin county resident, died Monday afternoon at the Veterans Hospital in Los Angeles, California where he had been a patient for several years. Mr. Johnson was born on a farm near Shoals on October 19, 1892, to Alex and Ritta Terry Johnson. And spent his early years around Shoals and in Bedford. He was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by two brothers Roy Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Austun Johnson of Indianapolis four sisters, Mrs. Wallace Sherfick, Mrs. Frank Badon, Mrs. Herschel Bennett, and Mrs. Roy Hull, all of Indianapolis: and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, many of whom reside in Lawrence county. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) at the First Church of God in Indianapolis. The body will be brought to the Jordan Funeral Home in Indianapolis Friday evening to lie in state until the hour of the funeral.

TIMES MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA SUNDAY, MARCH 29, 1986 Hazel Fern Evans, 84, R. 14. Bedford, died at 5:12 a.m. today at Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1902, in Lawrence County, to William and Carrie Bridwell Evans. She was a retired teacher. Survivors include one brother, Harry Evans, R. 14, Bedford; two sisters, Ada Freeman, Bloomington, and Dorothy Hollars. Bedford. A brother, Norman, and a sister, Roberta Wininger are deceased. Miss Evans was a graduate of Central Normal College with an A.B. degree and from Cincinnati Bible Seminary and Indiana University with an M.A. degree. She had taught at Needmore and Springville schools, Emminence High School, Mississienewa High School and at Eastern for three years. She had taught at Florida College, Temple Terrace in Florida and was with Northwood Institute at West Baden for 14 years. She also taught at Oolitic and Shawswick junior high schools. She taught full-time for 46 years and was a part-time volunteer for 14 years. She began teaching Bible while in high school. Services will be at the Church of Christ in Oolitic, the day and time to be announced later by Day & Carter Mortuary.
