BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, DEC. 14, 1900 Silas L. Pendley died in the northwestern outskirts of town Sunday forenoon, of cerebral hemorrhage, aged 73 years. The funeral took place this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial at the Breckinridge graveyard. OBITUARY. Silas Pendley, living just north of Bedford, died Dec. 9th, 1900, aged 63 years. He had made his home with A. J. Turpin, his son-in-law, since he came to this city, last April. Mr. Pendley was badly afflicted, being compelled to get around on crutches. About four weeks ago he was compelled to take his bed, and continued to go down, suffering fearfully until death came to his relief. He was a native of Kentucky. His wife died about 12 years ago. He was the father of two children, one of whome is living, Mrs. A. J. Turpin, with whom he made his home here. Owing to his affliction he made few acquaintances here, but those who formed his acquaintance believed him to be a good man. His patient suffering made him an object of pity. The writer held a conversation with him a few months ago, and learned that he was poorly. I passed his home quite often during the summer, and I saw him under the same little shade tree, day after day, and I though he must be repeating those beautiful lines composed by Knowles Shaw" "Many friends were gathered 'round me In the bright days of the past; But the grave has closed above them, And I linger here at last. Mr. Pendley was a member of the Methodist church, and was spiritual minded, talked of little else but heaven. His heart was full of hopes and he died rejoicing. We cannot sorrow that he is gone, if he is at rest, and we have every reason to believe he is. He leaves one daughter, and five small grandchildren to mourn his. After a brief service at the home, the remains were buried in the Kimble cemetery. The family has our sympathy in this their hour of grief. J. Williams.
