    3. BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, AUG. 10, 1900 REUNION The annual Reunion of the 67th Indiana Regiment, War of the Rebellion, will be held at Brownstown, Ind., on Sep. 6th. By order of RALPH APPLEWHITE, Pres. R. B. SCOTT, Sec'y. The North Bedford Ball Club played the Palestine club a game yesterday afternoon on the grounds of the latter club at Palestine. Four innings were played, the score standing 14 to 2 in favor of North Bedford. Oliver KNOTTS, the J street meat market man, says he will quit using the Chicago beef, and hereafter will kill only the best cattle to be found gazing in the Lawrence county pastures. He ought to have a good patronage, if he does this. A. W. RICHARDSON has two skilled workmen from Louisville employed laying a mosaic floor in his building on the south side, formerly occupied by The Racket. It will be occupied by a saloon known as the "Saratoga" to be run by Harve LAUNIS and Milt MYERS. AT the Odon Old Settlers' meeting the Odon ball team will play the following teams: Trinity Springs vs. Odon, Aug. 16, 1900. Montgomery vs. Odon, Aug. 17, 1900. Loogootee vs. Odon, Aug. 18, 1900. Hubert FERGUSON, of Williams, was here Tuesday on his way home from a visit with Orville RAINBOLT at Popcorn. He reports a fine time, having gone fishing on Monday, catching six carp which weighted 55 pounds. Also had a fine red fox which they captured, and is taking it home for a pet. Charley WOODY and Harry EDWARDS held a war dance and hived a large swarm of bees on East 18th street Wednesday. Charley says that he won't go within a half square of the pesky things, and if the owner lives in town, he wants him to call about midnight and take them away. To fully realized the deliciousness of a watermelon, the choicest melons should be selected and placed on ice for several hours. Col. William HILTON, who has his melon stand in the burnt building on the east side, is an expert judge of melons, and buys only the best. These he places in his ice chest till thoroughly cooled, when they furnish a feast fit for the gods. R. R. SCHULTZ took a load of young people to the country Monday night. The following named persons composed the party: Ed IKERD, Will JUDAH, Roy McDANIEL, Tilford BROWN, Charley DRAKE, Frank HAYES, Blanche BAKER, Nellie GAUSSIN, Ethel and Minnie HENRY, Teresa TROUT, Ethel MORGAN, Grace CALAHAN, Kate LUCAS and Helen JORDAN. Mrs. R. R. SHULTZ and Miss Edith QUEEN chaperoned the party and they report a delightful time. Some unknown party Tuesday night drilled a hole through the stone wall placed across the north end of the FELL property, on the west side, to keep sewage and waste water off the premises. This wall acts as a dam and causes the cellars north of it to be flooded. After the drill had been driven through the wall it got fast and could not be extricated, thus preventing the water from coming through, as had been intended. Park McDOWELL, the Oolitic merchant, is attending the Elnora reunion. Mrs. John STEVENSON, of East 17th street, is seriously sick with typhoid fever. A marriage license has been issued to John W. BUTLER and Ova A. HARDEN. Tom PEARCY and family, of Williams, were in the city Wednesday evening. The City Council has ordered two dark lanterns for the use of the night police. Jesse FISH has sold his farm east of this city and will move to Bedford soon. Mrs. Mat OWENS and daughter left Thursday for Spencer, to visit relatives. Capt. Elijah EDINGTON, of Owensburg, was here Wednesday and Thursday. Miss Ib BEAL, of Salem, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Henry REATH, in this city. Robert BLACKBURN is dangerously sick with typhoid fever at his home at Oolitic. Hon. H. C. DUNCAN, of Bloomington, was in town Thursday forenoon, on business. Miss Nellie HOWARD, of Seymour, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Henry KINDRED. RICHARDSON Bros. have just received a fresh lot of Lowney's Chocolates and Bon Bons. Mrs. John RILEY went to Elnora Thursday, to visit friends and also to attend the reunion. M. J. RAINBOLT, the north side jeweler, is moving his family into rooms over HAMER's furniture store. Frank SPAULDING and wife have returned from a visit with relatives in the country east of town. Workmen are building a new sidewalk on the north side of the SCHMUTTE residence on 14th street. Mrs. Dan SMITH, who had been the guest of Mrs. Peter RAINBOLT, has returned to her home at Columbus. Dr. W. H. HECKMAN and family have returned from a two weeks visit with relatives at Greenville, Pa. Miss Grace EVERETT, how had been visiting Miss Edna HILL, has returned to her home at Covington, Ky. Mrs. H. M. SARGEANT has returned to her home at Evansville, after a short visit with friends in this city. Mrs. E. M. YOUNG and Mrs. Harry WILSON went to Bedford last evening, to visit relatives. – Seymour Republican. Frank BYERS, wife and daughter, of Oolitic, are the guests of friends at Elnora, and will attend the big reunion there. Miss Augusta FAULK, who had been the guest of Miss Emma SPLITGERBER, has returned to her home at New Albany. John FISHER, who had been visiting relatives at North Tacoma, Wash., started on his return to this city, Thursday. The all-day meeting will be held at Shiloh Sunday, Aug. 20, instead of Sunday week. Elder J. W. NEWLAND will preach in the morning at 10:30 o'clock, and Rev. H. A. SEVERINGHAUS will preach at 2:30 p.m. Rev. W. M. RUSSELL, the regular pastor, announces that Rev. Chas. O. DOBSON, formerly of this place, will also be present during this meeting. Bring your baskets and remain all day. Salem, Ind., Aug. 7. – Because her parents objected to her going out nights and keeping company with a certain young man, Miss Ona McKINNEY, only daughter of David McKINNEY, a well known citizen living near Livonia, took a drug with suicidal intent, while her mother was trying to prevent her. The dose was taken at 6 p.m. Tuesday but by the efforts of the physicians she is alive, but in a critical condition.
