    3. Marilyn, The virus W32/[email protected] is not confined to the Lawrence County rootsweb list. It appeared on the Monroe County list over a week ago. The sender was notified of the problem - it can be spread unknowingly. She checked her computer, found the virus, and had her machine cleaned up. However, the virus is still alive and well. I received two e-mails from the same person yesterday - both with the infected file attachment. I had posted to the Monroe list twice - resulting in two e-mails with the attachment. The virus is NOT spread through rootsweb - not directly. Check the address on the e-mail and you will probably find that the e-mail was sent directly to you - not the list. It is deceiving because the subject in the mail I received read [INMONROE] Re: Hillenburg. I, too, thought that most "worms" spread through the address book in Outlook Express. I was not familiar with the name of the sender of the infected e-mail - wondered why I would be in that person's address book. I learned that this virus is spread through UNREAD e-mail in Outlook Express. If anyone on either list wants to learn more about the virus and how it is spread, go to http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99069& It is a bad one. I sent a personal e-mail to the sender of the infected e-mail I received last night to let he or she know about the virus. Guess what? I received another infected e-mail from that person tonight. Guess that letter was "unread," too. Be careful out there! 3. Thanks Norma. Have received attachments with this virus in various forms, from several of the lists. Although I understand that people aren't sending it out on purpose, it is MOST annoying! I learned my lesson about opening attachments a couple of years ago. I installed Norton a/v software and have not opened anything since that I wasn't certain of! I would think with all the talk about these things over the years that people would learn by others mistakes, but guess it just isn't so. : ( SIGH! Marilyn ----- Original Message ----- From: Norma A. 3. Marilyn: You are only one that has learned. Many folks still trust others and this is the price they pay. In the end, I think I had rather have a world of trusting people than an world of garbage such as the ones that write these things called virus. 3. Norma: Well said Norma. Unfortunately there are a lot of trusting folks out there that will open attachments without even thinking that someone out there gets their fun from the pain of others. Information will keep the problem at bay but it will never go. Bill Covey Author of: Watson Is Where It Wuz http://BillCovey.50megs.com
