Morgan, Don't know if this will be of any use to you or not, but there are three entries for Spicy Jane Dougherty in the World Connect Project at Rootsweb. One says James Tecumseh Smith died in 1865 in Clay (Co?) Illinois. One file had these notes on Spicy Jane, and a marriage date of Jan 7, 1836: Spicy was an herb Doctor Last name is sometimes spelled Daugherty Spicy is of course listed on the 1850 and 1860 census as the wife of James T. Smith. She appears on the 1870 census living in the town of Nobel in Richland county Illinois. Nobel is a short distance over the county line of Richland and Clay. Spicy Jane Dougherty and her Husband James T. Smith. James was born 1805. Maybe in Ga. Ky, Ohio, ?? My first record of them is when they married in Lawrence Co. Ind. in 1836 no clue there. in 1839 they sold their land there and moved to Green C. Ind and by 1850 they were back in Orange Co. Ind. May be a land sale there by 1858 or 1859 as they then moved to ILL. where they died. Thanking you so much for past help and future help Mary Lou in Okla
