BEDFORD WEEKLY MAIL BEDFORD, INDIANA FRIDAY, NOV. 23, 1900 An unusual site was witnessed in the Jeffersonville harbor yesterday. Early in the day something resembling huge golden balls were seen tossing about in the river, and boys soon discovered that a nimble penny might be earned by getting into skiffs and catching pumpkins, which had been carried from fields up the river by the rising water. Hundreds of pumpkins were caught, for the news of the new industry spread and boys were soon joined by men in the scramble for the pie fruit.
