Hello, Linda: I just checked your web site and it is very impressive. I have not tried to follow the Isom line, I do have information sent by Mrs. James E. Yount of Florrisant, MO. She sent family group sheets on Spencer Isom and Susannah Cox, and Spencer Greer and Irene (Serena) Edwards. Also some biographical information on John Isom b. ca 1750 in VA. They seem to tie in with your Isoms. It was especially interesting to find where Posey Greer fits into the family. My grandmother Grace G. Edwards Robinson talked about him when I was a child, I had not found him. We thought she may have been mixing families in her stories, she did that sometimes. I have been concentrating on the Greer, Edwards, Tanksley and Barnhill families in Lawrence Co. There seems to be marriage connections among all of them. My ancestor is George W. Greer who m. Nancy Isom. Their daughter Elizabeth "Betsy" Greer married 1851 in Lawrence Co., Allen Edwards, son of Edward "Neddy" Edwards and Mary Cox. I wonder if she was related to Susannah Cox. This is my Greer connection, which would also be an Isom connection: George Greer/Nancy Isom Elizabeth "Betsy" Greer/Allen Edwards Solomon Edwards/Susan Geneva Mathers m in Daviess Co., IN Grace Gertrude Edwards/Rhuel Benton Robinson His mother was Jane Tanksley, dau. of William Tanksley. They m. in Lawrence Co. Warren Edward Robinson/Helen E. Shaney (Harrison Co. family) Martha Robinson/William C. Fehr I have the children of Solomon Edwards and Susan Geneva Mathers, also the children of Allen Edwards and Betsy Greer. I have the names of the children of George Greer and Nancy Isom, and have found most of them with the exception of David. I last found him on the 1850 census age 23 at home. Catherine Greer and John V. Coulter lived in the Spice Valley area. I think she is listed as Sarah C. Coulter on the 1880 census. Spencer Greer and Serena (Irene) Edwards are in Liberty, Schuyler Co., MO on the 1880 census. Their eldest child is age 20, born MO, so they must have left Indiana between 1850 and 1860. There were probably other children between 1850 and 1860. I thought Biddy Greer must have died as a child. Could her name have been Belinda? Do you know of a connection to Joel Greer b.1807 N.C. age 43 1850 census Lawrence Co., wife Margaret B., daughter Susanna age 19 b. N.C. Other children b. Indiana. Also, Thomas Greer, b 1816, N.C. wife Elizabeth, b. KY. four children on the 1850 census, Marion township of Lawrence Co. Also, Jesse Greer, age 52, b KY wife Jennie age 48, b IN. four children, 1850 census, a mixed family with James Lee and Jas. Howlett. All New Albany, Floyd Co., IN. which is about 50 miles south of Lawrence Co. Perhaps brothers of George W. Greer? One other bit of confusing information, perhaps you have seen this, on rootsweb. Grayson Co. VA board, George W. Greer aka George W. Reeves, this in a deed in Grayson Co. I had not heard of a Reeves connection prior to this. I would be interested in your thoughts on these people, would like to compare notes with you. Thanks, Martha Fehr [email protected]
Lawrence County Cousins: Glad to see people enjoying the rollcall of surnames. Just remember if you are replying to someone's message, reply to them personally...and not the entire list. As for roll calls, we have them about every 6 months. If we have them more frequently, people complain about the list volume. Twice a year works out pretty well to balance the value to complaint ratio! *grin* THANKS! Rebecca Lawrence County Listmistress
