    2. The children who were left at railroad stations were children from orphanages in New York and Boston. They were called "The Orphan Train" children. My great grandfather raised two of these children in the late 1800s. The "Orphan Train Society" used to have a very helpful site. I haven't used it for a while but I'm sure a Google search will find it for you. Billie Jo
