Noticed that you are researching the INMAN family also, as I am too. The other family names that lived where Crane is now are; FISH, HOLLAND, STULTZ, IKERD, CROW, MYERS and of course INMAN. Would love to share what information with those that are researching the same names too. George A. Moungie, born abt 1882 in KY, married Ida May Wilburn, also born in KY. Their daughter, Thelma, born 1900 in KY, married Roy Gardner, born 1895 in IN, son of Sam and Sarah B. Jackson Gardner, 2 Jun 1919 in Clark County, IN. The marriage license lists everyone's residence as Bedford, Lawrence County, IN. I know that George Moungie was still alive Dec 1930, but I don't know where he lived then. The rest of his family lived in Toledo, OH and Louisville, KY and he was not with them. George and Ida had at least one more daughter. Any information on any of this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sandi Whitty
Recently I was in a courthouse looking for land records on an ancestor and couldn't find it in the general index. I found a subsequent deed when my Robert Gano sold the land but couldn't find an entry in the index to show who he purchased it from. The clerk came to help and told me I should look in the numerical index. I don't ever remember hearing of this index before. This index is numerically arranged by the Township, Range, and section of the land. If you have the description then you can look up the land in the numerical index. This index shows all the activity on the land. In my case it showed where my Robert Gano was the original owner from a land grant in 1871 and then proceeds to show everyone who purchased or sold it. Somehow the general index had missed recording Robert Gano's land record but it was recorded in the numberical index. I just want to pass this along to others researching land deeds. Karen
I haven't checked the site completely yet, but it appears to lead to some valuable information about old photos. I did browse through theOld Photo Guide area. It describes all types of old photographs, mounting materials, etc and has downloadable forms and charts, and tips for dating old photos http://www.city-gallery.com/ Janet Endris - [email protected] INGenExchange Lawrence Co. I remember you when you lived at Trinity Springs. I used to visit your Mom and Dad with Roger & Rosie Abel. My name is Nancy Baker and I am married to Dale Baker that lived out in the country from Trinity Springs. You probably remember his nephews, Bob Pruiit, Sonny Pruitt, and Broz Pruitt. I still see your parents occasionally when they visit Roger & Rosie. I found the following in the Lawrence Co. marriages and thought maybe this would be a connection to your family. Clarence Matthews, age 19, parents: Brant & Eliza Hudson Matthews. Married Oma Hill, 7 June 1902. Mattie Hudson, age 20, b. KY. Father: Elijah Hudson. Mother;s name not given. Married Alva Callahan, 22 Mar 1896. I did not find any of these people in the 1880 census. Must have come to Indiana later. Beech Grove Cemetery Records Brant Matthews, 1859- 1937 Eliza Matthews, 1847 - 1940 Sidney Matthews, 1891 - 1972 If I can be of further help to you please let me know. Take care, Nancy from Shoals, IN
In reference to Grandma Matthews - when doing your research keep in mind that the names Mathis and Matthews were used somewhat interchangeably by the same families in Lawrence County. Often times it is the same family - seems like they could not agree on what name to use! I am not related to any Mathis or Matthews by blood - but many of them married into the Flinn and Guthrie and Williams families. Pat
