    3. Thanks to all the list members who wrote and gave me tips. It jogged my mind to get out my Indiana Research Outline from the Family History Library. Well, I found a juicy tidbit in there about the census' which may be the answer to my dilemma. Quoting from the research outline-- "A few scattered fragments of 1853, 1856, 1857, 1877 and other county and state censuses are at the Indiana State Library." I am now thinking that maybe my cousin who found Samuel and Joseph Brazzell in Indiana (I can't find them anywhere!) maybe found them in these census records. I do know that she did a lot of research in Indiana in person. So perhaps my dilemma is solved--- but of course now is the problem to get to Indiana and check it out for myself. :) Has anyone ever looked at these fragments or are they indexed in a book? Karen

    3. Ellen. Thanks so much. I really haven't check the formation dates on the counties-- guess I assumed that 1850 was a little late to be redistributing the boundaries of counties. But do remember changes like that in Ohio and even formation of new counties that late (I have been doing a lot of research in Ohio) I will check out your ideas. Thanks a lot! Karen

    3. Dear Karen, Around here somewhere I have a list of IN counties, when they were established and from what other counties some of them broke. It came from the fromt of an IN census index book at the library; I don't remember which year, but I believe all of them have it. Check to see which counties the ones in question came from, as your time frame is early, around the time that alot of redistribution of boundaries was going on. Then check the surrounding counties, keeping in mind that not everyone on the census is also in the index. Hope this helps some. Ellen " I have checked the census indexes and cannot find a Joseph or Samuel Brazzle--- under any spelling.... I have even read the entire Green and Daviess Co. census line by line to try to find them. What am I missing? Are there any off year census' for Indiana-- like an 1855 or 1845? "

    3. I have a dilemma that I can't seem to find an answer to, so am hoping someone out there might have a suggestion for me. I have been researching my Brazzle family on and off for a long time and about 25 years ago a 'cousin' sent me copies of her genealogy work in the form of a 5 page typewritten family tree. She was quite elderly and sick and we corresponded only a few times before I was unable to get any more answers. I assume she died. Now, my dilemma. In her research, she says that William Brazzle shows up in the 1830 census for Daviess Co and 1840 Green Co and the 1850 Green Co. His son Joshua is listed in all three census' also. She then says that "apparently 2 brothers joined them in 1850. The census lists Joseph Brazil and wife Hannah. with children Hannah and James. Also listed is Samuel Brazil and wife Nancy J. with children Morrison, Malinda, Rhoda, Delilah, Rose Ella and Nancy J." I have checked the census indexes and cannot find a Joseph or Samuel Brazzle--- under any spelling.... I have even read the entire Green and Daviess Co. census line by line to try to find them. What am I missing? She didn't make them up out of the air. She found them somewhere but for the life of me I can't find them. She was very thorough in her research and I have not found any discrepancies in her work so I must be overlooking something. Are there any off year census' for Indiana-- like an 1855 or 1845? Any suggestions would really be helpful, Karen

    3. Thanks to Chris, Gilbert, Annette and others for helping to identify Cook's Park found in an old photo I have. Chris, the post card of the "Casino at Cooks Park" is the same buliding in my photo except that the lights are not apparent. I suppose what I thought was a lake was actually Pegion Creek. Now I need to indentify the young lady in the photo. Her name is written as Ethel Traylor and information on the back of the photo says she is 17 and it is dated as 1918. My family line of Traylors are from around Evansville and Indianapolis. No one in my family can identify who Ethel Traylor is or how she fits into our line. Some of my folks are in their 90s. I am sending this note to all the Indiana lists that I subscribe to in an attempt to find a connection. If you receive more then one copy of this communique please disregard all except one. Again, thanks to all those that have helped, Paul Traylor Milwaukee Wisconsin [email protected]

    1. [INLAWREN] Ruth Esther Clark
    2. I have a picture of my great grandmother, Sarah Catherine (Pitman) Dorsett standing beside, a much younger,Ruth Esther Clark. The picture was taken at 406 East 15th Street in Bedford but only the names are on the back,no dates. I do know that Sarah Dorsett was born in 1844 and died in Bedford in 1931 so that does give some idea of the age of the picture. I am trying to find out if there is a family connection there between the two. I remember hearing the name of this Ruth several times growing up, but as with most things of interest to me now, I didn't ask when there were people around who knew the answers. I did ask a lot of questions about family information but this particular one I sure did miss. If anyone knows and could help I would appreciate the help. Thanks so much. Karen Brief info on my family: Joshua Brazzle, Jr.(born 1842 in Greene Co, IN) married Sarah Jane Gano and when she died, he married her sister, Rachel Gano-- daughters of Robert Gano and Phebe Newland Gano. Joshua's children are: Robert, John, Mary Ann, Susan, Rhodabell, Liza, Phoebe, Sara, Elizabeth, William, Fanny, Rosetta, Rosanna, Marg, and Phillip. He lived near Hollenberg, KS from about 1880 . His father's name was Joshua Brazzle, Sr. He died in Harrison Co, Missouri in 1858. Mother's name was Nancy Quillen Brazzle. Joshua Brazzle, Sr. parents are believed to be William and Sarah Brazzle from Greene Co. Indiana, but I haven't been able to prove this.
