On May 23, 1822, Elizabeth Nutterfee, born July 10, 1810, was married to Andrew Pittman, in Nelson Co Ky. At a later date, at an unknown location, she married John Carter Jr. Perhaps at Shenandoah,Va.,in 1842.or perhaps in Ky., or Indiana. According to my records, she was almost 12 years old when she married Andrew. Does anyone have any information on either the Pittman, or the John Carter Jr, at Shenandoah, Va.? She may have had at least 3 children, with Andrew, Nancy Jane,1829, Elizabeth Ann,1828, and possibly Matilda 1831. Any help appreciated. I am trying to batter down a brick wall. Thanks. That Nathan you listed is mine. He is in the 1820 through 1860 Lawrence Co., IN (Perry Twp) censuses. His wife, Elizabeth (Hanson) Melton, is in the 1870 Lawrence Co. census, Indian Creek Twp., living with a Ruminer family, the actual census looks like it's "Huminer" but, I can't find any Huminers around anywhere, let alone Lawrence Co., IN. Thank you. I wondered if my Meltons are related to the Harrison Co., IN Meltons. Hello, I am researching my Melton ancestors who moved from Pulaski Co., KY to Lawrence Co., IN in 1818. Anybody else got Meltons in their lines? Thanks, Carla

The only thing in the 1884 History of Law. Co. Ind is a listing on page 46 for Nathan Melton as being in Perry Township as an early settler. There is however in the 1884 History of Orange Co. Ind a listing on page 650 for a James W. Melton as follows: James W. Melton is one of eight children born to James and Mary (Kendall) Melton, who were natives of South Carolina and Kentucky. The parents were married in Harrison Co. ind and from there came to Orange County in 1819. James W., the third son, was born March 25, 1825, and he made his home with his mother until the time of his marriage, the father dying and leaving him at the age of four years to her care. His advantages for education were quite limited, although by diligence he succeeded in acquiring sufficient learning to transact the ordinary business of a farmer, which he has always successfully conducted. In politics he is a Democrat, and is one of the worthy and upright citizens of Greenfield Township, where his whole life has been spent. His marriage with miss Mary A. Ray was solemnized February 8, 1849, and of their five children these three are now living: Joel W., Melinda E. and Rhoda J. There was no Melton listed in the 1884 History of Washington County, but usually that shows as the above bears out, they did not come up through Washington County to get to Lawrence County. This is not my family but hope this is of some help. Nancy [email protected]
There is also going to be a non-credit course offerred at Oakland City University - Bedford beginning January 15, a 10 hour course (2 hours on each of 5 Mondays). This class includes everything from A to Z about genealogy, from setting goals to preserving your finished product. It will be held in the Cyberlab at OCU-B, and each student will have internet access for scheduled class research time. A look at genealogy software is also included. Since this is a non-credit course at OCU-B there is a $100 class fee, and I believe people will find it well worth the time and effort to attend.
