    1. [INLAWREN] Marriage index lookup request
    2. jraymond
    3. Could someone please check the Lawrence County marriage records index for the marriage of Ella Whiting to William Kingman, which probably occurred 1910-1915? Were marriage license APPLICATIONS (listing more genealogical information than the licenses themselves) required at that time? Thanks very much. Linda Johnson

    3. Could someone please check the Lawrence County death record index for the death date of Hugh C. Whiting? He was 60 years old at the time of the 1920 census, so he probably died during the 1920s or 1930s. Many thanks. Linda Johnson

    1. [INLAWREN] Hugh C. Whiting family
    2. jraymond
    3. Does anyone have any information at all about the family of Hugh C. Whiting, who lived in Bedford, Lawrence County, from 1900 at least through 1920? Hugh kept a saloon in Bedford, but he was from a show business family. Two of his brothers, Hiram "Bert" Whiting and James Whiting were actors. Was Hugh also in vaudeville, either before settling in Bedford or while residing there, perhaps on an occasional or part-time basis? Hugh's brother, Hiram "Bert", inverted his first and middle names and sometimes "went by" Bert H. Whiting. Did Hugh C. do the same thing, or is the vaudeville performer, "Charles H." Whiting, a different person, perhaps another brother? Any information much appreciated. Linda Johnson

Her mother died when she was an infant so she was adopted by the MYERS family and grew up known as Julia MYERS. She later lived with her adopted parents in New Albany, Indiana (Floyd Co.). She was married there (May 14, 1885) to William ROEDER (from Louisville, Ky). The marriage license (Floyd Co.) does not give the parents names. A note in the New Albany paper said she was married at the home of her parents in New Albany, but did not mention the parents names. When I visited Indianapolis I checked the City Directories at the Indiana State Library for Floyd County, but they did not have a book for the year 1885 in which to look up the listings for MYERS/MEYERS families. Julia MYERS ROEDER died on Feb. 10, 1910 and the Indianapolis, Indiana newspaper noted her death but did not list any family members even though she was married and had some children. I would appreciate any ideas anyone might have on how to further research Julia (HISEY) MYERS, perhaps on-line or via snail mail since I live in Connecticut. I would appreciate a look-up if anyone has access to an 1885 New Albany City Directory or perhaps the 1880 Census for Floyd County. A look-up for the surname HISEY, HEISY, etc from the 1860 Lawrence Couny would also be appreciated (first name may be William or James). Thanks, Ann --------------7B5562CC90DEC928C815F7DC--

    3. Surnames mentioned in this e-mail: BELL, DALZELL, HENDERSON, HOOPINGARNER, KELLEY MCKEGG, REYNOLDS, SAUVAGO, SMOUSE, THOMAS This is a brief history of my Lawrence County connections. My ggg-grandparents, Thomas and Nancy (Henderson) Reynolds were married Sep 23, 1818 in Maryville, Blount Co, TN and moved to Lawrence Co, IN between 1825 and 1828. Robert Reynolds, who I believe to be their last born child and their only child born in Lawrence Co, was born there Feb 01, 1928. Thomas Reynolds died in 1830, Nancy married again to William Guthrie, William died a year and a half later. The 1850 Lawrence Co, IN census shows Nancy as head of household with Jonathan, Robert, Leanna. Nancy moved her family along with several other families from Lawrence Co, IN to Jackson Twp, Guthrie Co, IA and settled there Nov 13, 1855 after her oldest son, Jonathan Henderson Reynolds and his wife Mary Jane (Dalzell) Reynolds had arrived a year earlier and established farm land. The 1860 Guthrie Co, IA census shows Nancy Guthrie (age 66) living in household of Robert Reynolds and Leanna, along with Jonathan. Nancy died in Guthrie County, IA in 1864. 3. Once again since the new year has begun as the Census State Co-ordinator for the USGenWeb Census Project I would like to remind you that we are in need of transcribers. I know this can be a time consuming task, with this in mind I am thinking of forming "Teams" where indivuuals can sign up to do one township of a given County and year. Working together would soon have the whole year online. Please consider this valuble project.
