Jeannie Regan-Dinius, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, will be the guest speaker for the monthly meeting of the Morgan County History and Genealogy Association, Thursday, June 28. Ms. Regan-Dinius will speak concerning the Indiana cemetery registry and database presently being prepared by the Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology. The registry, authorized by Indiana Code 14-21-1-13.5, will contain all cemeteries and burial grounds located in all 92 counties of the State of Indiana. The registry and database will provide a wealth of information concerning each cemetery and burial ground within the State of Indiana. Ms. Regan-Dinius was previously employed by the Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology as a special projects coordinator. She developed public outreach programs and assisted volunteers throughout the state with the Indiana Freedom Trails, Underground Railroad. Prior to her employment with the Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology, she was the Executive Director of Historic Forks of the Wabash in Huntington, Indiana. The meeting will be held at the Morgan County Public Library, 110 South Jefferson Street, Martinsville, at 7:00 P. M. The public is invited to attend.
Hi, I have come to a dead end in my research on my great grandmother's beginnings. Family information says that she was born in Bedford, Indiana (Lawrence Co.) on February 4, 1865. I do not have a birth certificate to verify that because she was adopted at a young age. Her orginal surname was said to be HISEY, HEISY, or HEISEY (or perhaps another variation of that name). I know that she was raised as Julia F. MYERS (another sources says MEYERS) and lived in her 20's (around 1885) with the MYERS/MEYERS family in New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana. Does anyone know if adoption records were kept around 1865 - 1870 in either Lawrence or Floyd Counties and where would I look to find these records? She was married to William Roeder on May 14, 1885 in New Albany (Floyd Co.), Indiana. The marriage record does not list her parents names. I found a newspaper article on the marriage in the New Albany paper, but it just announced that she was married at the home of her parents (in New Albany). No mention of the parents first names or the names of witnesses. Julia's maiden name was listed as MYERS or MEYERS (spelling differs with source). Does anyone have access to a city directory for New Albany, Indiana for the year 1885? I would like a listing of all the MYERS and MEYERS families with their addresses. I checked the Indiana State Library last summer when I was there, but they did not have that year. She died in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1910. The newspaper articles did not give any listing of family members that she left behind. Any suggestions on how to do further research on her would be appreciated. Ann

I am new to the list. My gg grandfather, Andrew Jackson Harris, was born in Lawrence Co Ind about 1828-1830. I do not know his parents. He married Mary Ann Gilreath in Martin Co Ind in 1852. They moved from Indiana in about 1859 to Edgar Co ILL. The children they had in Indiana were James O. b. abt 1855, William R. b. abt 1856, John B. b. about 1858. I am assuming they lived in either Lawrence or Martin Co., but do not know for sure. In Edgar Co IL they had Louisa J. b. abt 1860, Henry H., Jasper, and my great grandmother, Theodosia Harris. The children, John B and Louisa must have died before 1870, because they don't show up on the 1870 or subsequent census. If you have any knowledge of this family, please contact me. We have an idea that he may have been a son of Dabney Harris or Benjamin Harris. Benjamin Harris was married in 1826 in Lawrence Co but later was found on the 1850 census in Warren Co IND. Any ideas will be appreciated! Thank you. Cathea (Cat) Curry [email protected]
