    1. [INLAWREN] Thomas Jeffers Marriage
    2. Norma A. Zanetti
    3. Looking for a marriage record for Thomas Jeffers/Jeffors/Jeffries to Lurena/Lorena/Lorraine ??? Marriage would have taken place between 1890 and 1895. Thomas Jeffers married Lorena [Axsom] Reeves in Monroe County in 1906. Thomas was in Lawrence County in 1900, wife, Lurinna b. Mar 1865, married 9 years, chn: Lillie b. Mar 1896, Mellie b. Feb 1897, Eithel b. Nov 1898. Thomas was in Monroe County in 1910, wife, Lorenia, age 50, dau., Lillie, age 15, son Ethel, age 11. Census indicated Thomas and Lorena had been married 15 years. Although all indications are that Thomas Jeffers married only once (marriage record and 1910 census), I am trying to rule out the possibility that he married a woman with a similar first name to that of Lorena Axsom Reeves. Lorena and first husband, James Henry Reeves, divorced about 1893. To further confuse the issue, Lillie M. Jeffers married James Harris in Monroe County 1912. The online index lists her parents as Thomas Jeffers and Lorraine Johnson. I think it's possible that whoever was providing the info for the marriage application thought Lorena was a Johnson because her mother, Martha Ann Hall, married a Johnson about 1872. Thank you, Norma Axsom Zanetti Thank you, Norma Zanetti

    1. [INLAWREN] Re:Lookup
    2. Am interested in a lookup for the burial of Ida Bell Cassady, (or Cassidy) who died Nov 1, 1970 and I think is buried in Green Hill Cem in Bedford. Also interested in her husband, Henry Cassady (or Cassidy) who died March 15, 1943 or 42 in either Lawrence Co., or Indianapolis, most likely also buried in Green Hill cem. Am interested mostly in finding where they were born if at all possible. Also, if there were any other Cassadys or Cassidys buried there. Thanks Steve Molnar Old Hickory, TN

    1. [INLAWREN] Joseph Rawlins Bio

    3. The following was posted to the KYBiographies-L this morning by Sandi Gorin: #7108: History of Lawrence, Orange and Washington Counties, Indiana From the Earliest Time to the Present; Together with Interesting Biographical Sketches, Reminiscences, Notes, Etc. Chicago, Goodspeed Bros., & Co., Publishers, 1884. Weston A. Goodspeed, Leroy C. Goodspeed, Charles L. Goodspeed. Boyle County. JOSEPH RAWLINS, the oldest settler now living in Lawrence County, Indiana, is a native of the town of Danville, Boyle County, KY., born April 21, 1796, one of the five children born to Charles and Aristicia (Gregory) Rawlins, early settlers of Kentucky. In the fall of 1812 he settled in what is now Lawrence County, Indiana, and has made that his home ever since. His father dying when he was four years old, he was left to the care of an uncle, with whom he came to Indiana. He served as a Ranger in 1814, from which service he saved money enough to buy eighty acres of land. In December, 1817, he married Miss Sallie McManis, and began farming, taking his produce to New Orleans by flat-boat. In 1826 Mr. Rawlins began doing a general mercantile business at Bedford, which had only then beem made the county seat, and which was named at the request of Mr. Rawlins, from Bedford County, Tennessee, from whence his uncle had brought him. He built a flouring-mill, also. Mr. and Mrs. Rawlins raised a family of ten children: James, Sarah J. (Denson), Miranda, Benjamin F., Mary (Hickman), Homer, Joseph, Susan (Mitchell), Emeline (Farmer), and Nettie (Voris). August 5, 1855 Mrs. Rawlins died, and about the same time he abandoned the mercantile trade entirely. He was the first Assessor of the county. He was elected County Commissioner, but resigned that office. He has generally been a Republican although not strictly so, as he has always voted for the men and principles, not party.

    3. The History of Lawrence County by James Guthrie is the one sold by the LCHGS and I'm sure it is available from the Bedford Public Library through inter-library loan. The other two - GoodSpeeds History of Lawrence, Orange and Washington Counties and the History of Lawrence and Monroe County can be found at the library but are in the "do not circulate" category. 2. Andrew & Liz Van Camp
    3. Robert isn't mentioned in the entry for Isaiah & Sarah, but there is a Robert listed on pgs. 22, 25, 26, 34, 46, 77. On pg. 22... "Probably the second grist-mill in the county that was operated by water-power was situated on Indian Creek, a short distance above the place where Craig's Mill now stands on that stream. This was in operation as early as 1818, and was owned by Robert Dougherty, who in a year or so sold to a man named Bowers." On pg. 25... Under the heading of Shawswick Township... "...The appreciation of the early settlers for this land in Shawswick Township will be seen by comparing the following list of land entries with those made in some other portion of the county of about equal area, as, for instance, Pleasant Run Township, covering the same period of time:...William Dougherty, 1817;...Samuel Dougherty, 1817;...Robert Dougherty, 1817;..." On pg. 26... I didn't find him on this page...only a mention of Dougherty's Ferry. On pg. 34... Under the heading of The County Paupers... "...In 1820 Robert Dougherty was paid $41.11 for care of one Ritter, a pauper." On pg. 46... Under the heading of "Unable to Agree"... "In a case between Robert Dougherty and James Glover, appealed from a Justice Court, we find the jury discharged because they were unable to agree. This is the first case of the kind in the county, and there was probably very little at stake between the parties..." On pg. 77... Under the heading of "Bedford Methodist Episcopal Church" "In 1826 a little band of about forty Methodists was organized into a regular church called the Methodist Episcopal Church of Bedford. Among the first members appear the familiar and respected names of...Robert Dougherty, wife, son and daughter,..." If you think this is your Robert, I would be more than happy to photocopy the pages and send them to you. LIZ
