Group, I'll be travelling from Rochester, NY to Lake County, next week, to interview 3 people who knew my great-grandparents when they were youngsters. So I am assured of success, already. However, I hope to dig up some documentary evidence also. From the many comments I have read, it seems that the Courthouse may be a no-win situation. Do researchers run into problems with birth & death records and probate? Any strategies for success at the Courthouse would be appreciated. What about any church records for St. John the Baptist's, in Whiting? Is access to the early records possible ? Which Lake County Library has the best records? Would you recommend that I forgo the Lake County Libraries and do research at the Valparaiso Library? Are there any Whiting directories from the early 1900s? Where are they located?
