BY ART SCHWEITZER Schererville's town council members helped to record the town's precious history by creating the pictorial No. 3, 2002 history book, which can be viewed at our libraries or purchased for $12 at the Schererville Clerk-Treasurer's Office, located at 833 Old Lincoln Highway. Vince Ruffolo of Sheffield Printers has put together a tremendous, well-received book. How long they will remain for sale is anyone's guess. Do you remember where Arnie's hot dog building was? The old Lincoln Motel? Grandmother's Attic (an old motel)? Teibel Tourist Motels? The Sherwood swimming pool? Wicks Lumber Co.? The picnic area and all the rides of Sauzers Kiddieland? The area and the Harder House where Best Western now is and on and on? If you were connected somehow with any of the thousands of pictures we have, the book becomes a part of your life. On the cover of the new book is Schererville Township school No. 1 (it's not Old St. Mike's). Quite a few people know Edie Schaafsma (who later was Edie Govert and still later Edie Adams). She attended school here, as did Richard Tiebel, only to name a few. Page 57 shows how Homan School started, and page 56 shows the old two-story building with the new Homan School being built. Art Schweitzer is the president of the Schererville Historical Society. ---------------- Short note from me, all the area historical/genealogical societies information is now on a new page. If you know of any others for the area that are online, let me know: http://khuish.tripod.com/histsoci.htm Kathy
