    3. The Hammond Times Indiana Nov. 3, 1926 Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude LENNERTZ, 4924? Magoun Avenue, East Chicago, who was killed in a train-auto accident at the B. & O. crossing on Forsythe Avenue, Sunday, was held this morning in St. Mary's church. Internment was made at the Calvary cemetery, Gary. She was 43 years old. Survivors: Parents: Mr. and Mrs. William MEISEL of Hammond Husband: Nick Son: Frederick Two brothers and a sister. Mrs. LENNERTZ'S daughter, Mrs. Louise MAHONEY, 27 years old, of 601 Kentucky Avenue, Gary, was killed in the same accident. Services were held for her in Gary this morning. Two other occupants of the illfated auto, Robert CARNEY, 57 years old, also of 601 Kentucky Avenue, Gary, and his son Leonard, 18, were seriously injured in the accident and are now lying in the Gary Mercy hospital. Mrs. MAHONEY'S four year old son miraculously escaped injury when his mother clasped him in her arms and protected him from the wreckage which took her life. The accident occurred Sunday morning. Leonard CARNEY, driving the Oakland touring car in which the family were returning from a Halloween celebration in South Chicago, drove into the path of an eastbound Wabash passenger train when the watchman, failed to lower the gates in time. The machine was carried about 75 yards down the track on the pilot of the engine. When members of the East Chicago police and fire departments reached the demolished machine, Mrs. LENNERTZ and Mrs. MAHONEY were unconscious. They both died a few minutes later.
