The Hammond Times Indiana Nov. 4, 1937 Obits WILDERMUTH is called; one of Gary pioneers One of Gary's first business men, Oliver Perry WILDERMUTH, aged 79, died yesterday in his residence at 960 W. 11th. Avenue from a paralytic stroke suffered two weeks ago. He settled in Gary in 1908, two years after the United States Steel corporation began to construct its gigantic plant there. He first opened a hay, grain and feed store, but later transferred to the real estate business as the town began to boom with the expanding steel mill. WILDERMUTH won a fortune in Gary real estate. He also was one of the city's outstanding democratic leaders for years. The decedent was the father of Fred. O. WILDERMUTH, real estate dealer The uncle of Ora L. WILDERMUTH, Gary's first school teacher Joseph H. WILDERMUTH , Gary architect The widow Eva, also survives WILDERMUTH came to Gary in a horse and wagon from Royal Center, Ind., his birthplace, accompanied by his brother, Elias WILDERMUTH, the late father of Ora and Joseph WILDERMUTH. Services will be held in the chapel at 675 Adams Street Saturday. Rev. W. F. Switzer, assistant pastor of City Church, will officiate. Internment will be in Mount Hope cemetery at Logansport near WILDERMUTH'S old house.
