The Lake County Times Friday November 1, 1918 Page 1 The flu epidemic has about subsided and tomorrow at midnight the ban will be lifted, throwing open the churches, schools, theaters, billiard parlors, lodges, clubs and other places closed by the state board of heath. Dr. HALE, secretary of the county board of health, estimated today that there are no more than 1,500 cases of influenza in Lake county as against 7,000 at the peak of the epidemic. While the official report has not been compiled the numbers of deaths from influenza in Lake county is believed to be between 500 and 600. That the "flu" still lingers was indicated today by a report that seven persons in one family - the entire family - are so ill of the disease that none is able to be out of bed. The board of education of West Hammond has decided to introduce medical inspection of pupils. This course was recommended by Supt. Otis W. GILMORE and the board will have the co-operation of the bureau of social service of Cook county which will furnish nurses. The nurses will follow up cases to the respective home to ascertain the cause.
