The Hammond Times Obituaries November 5, 1939 THREE YOUTHS HURT IN FATAL CRASH IMPROVE Three youths who were injured Saturday in a LaGrange auto accident that resulted fatally for William KARNAFEL age 27 of 1021 170th Street, Hammond, were reported recovering. KARNAFEL died of a broken neck. The auto driven by John GIBA 28 of Hammond, and bearing Casimir ZEMBRUSKI 30 of Hammond, Mike MARANTIC, 23 of Bellwood, Ill. and KARNAFEL, sideswiped a tree then crashed into a second one. KARNAFEL was employed at the Hammond Brass Works. He was a member of Lodge 66 United Russian Orthodox brotherhood.
