    3. The Hammond Times Indiana August 10, 1926 Dies At Age of Ninety Lake County Pioneer, well known over the county, Answers Last Call Another Lake County pioneer, Mrs. Barbara ELLWANGER, more than ninety years old, passed away last night. She died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Florence GESCHELDER TANKE? at 411 Sibley Street, Hammond, during the night and was found dead early this morning, following a hemorrhage stroke. The funeral has been arranged for Thursday when services will be held at the late home after which the body will be taken to Crown Point for services in the Trinity Lutheran Church of which she was a member for many years. Mrs. ELLWANGER was typical of the pioneer stock of Lake County, deeply religious, optimistic for the future, hard working, thrifty, neighborly. A native of Wuertemberg, Germany, Mrs. ELLWANGER came to this country when her widowed father as the oldest of nine children. After her marriage at Crown Point, she and her husband settled on a farm half way between Cedar Lake and Crown Point. Here three children were born, only one of whom, John F. ELLWANGER of Hammond, survives. Six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. Following the death of her husband thirty years ago, Mrs. ELLWANGER moved to Hammond where she made her home with her daughter, now deceased, Mrs. Fred. C. GESCHEIDLER, at 411 Sibley Street. Here she was always surrounded with all the love and care devoted children and grandchildren lavished upon her. For many years she enjoyed the best of health. On July 11?, her final illness set in, and her demise was therefore not unexpected.
