Although his obituary states he died just 8 days after his brother Joseph, the cemetery records (St. Mary's, Crown Point) for Joseph show a 1935 death year (but even 1937 would be about ten years short of Joseph's age of 94 in Adam's obituary!) It is difficult to imagine that the person who gave the information to the Hammond Times would be confused, since such a close family member's death just 8 days earlier would be fresh in everyone's mind, so I can only assume that the gravestone for Joseph was misread perhaps. I've been unable to determine just which Miller was married to Adam's sister Lena... have searched my database (without success) under all Miller/Müller/Mueller spellings for a Lena or Magdalena without a surname, as sometimes would occur. Adam's daughter Mrs. Christina Mahoy had been listed in my database as the wife of one Edward Caron, so presumably this was a second marriage for her. 3. The Hammond Times Indiana Oct. 30, 1944 Crying? Not This Soldier Lansing If they did not know to the contrary, relatives and friends of Pfc. Eugene BRINKMAN, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank BRINKMAN of this village, might expect the paratrooper to bemoan the fact he's been twice wounded in the war. Not so BRINKMAN! First of all, he's the proud possessor of the purple heart decoration with three stars, which he recently sent home to his "mom". Secondly, BRINKMAN contends the work of G. I. doctors in treating him during his most recent wounding has made him into a "most handsome looking brute." In a letter accompanying his decorations, Pfc. BRINKMAN, who still is confined to a hospital in Naples, said the physician attending him has finally removed a wire which braced his jaw during the past two months after he was wounded. Apparently happily startled by the apparition that now looks back at him from mirrors, Paratrooper BRINKMAN wrote: "Mom, you should see what a handsome looking brute I am now. My G. I. haircut has grown into long way hair and I've also raised a 'soup strainer' during the time I've been under treatment here." The village paratrooper who has been overseas since last May, previously was wounded August 22 in France.

    2. I've identified this individual by a search of her siblings in my database as Mrs. Maria Schmit of Turkey Creek, b. 1875; no information on her husband, but her siblings are listed as Smith; no children listed. She was the oldest daughter of John Nicholas Schmid (1846-1903) of the Merrillville area, and his wife Anna Schillo (1857-1923); I've not yet found a burial (not in St. Joseph's Cem. in Dyer, where her funeral service was to be held). 1. Re: [INLAKE] BOHLING, Adam Obit 1937
    2. I'm assuming that Adam Bohling and his wife were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park (since there are no records of him in St. Mary's, Crown Point). Paul Davis
