    1. [INLAKE] RE: SMITH
    2. Looking for information on Nathan Oliver SMITH who married a Daisy May BROWN. It was Nathan's second marriage. His first wife died shortly after giving birth, with the infant dying first. He had one other child, Ewing SMITH. Daisy May Brown first marriage was to James S. McCallum. She later moved to Indiana. I don't know if she married Nathan Oliver Smith in Indiana or Michigan. She did however eventually divorced Nathan Smith, against her will, and did go on to later marry a Grant McGlaughlin. It was said to be the love of her life. I believe she lived in Indiana then. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping it will lead me to information on her mother Hattie BROWN ( maiden name JONES) and Hattie's mother Lydia, last name unknown. I have tried google.com and the list plus rootsweb.. I haven't come up with anything so far. God Bless Pam

    1. [INLAKE] Lake Co. Poor Farm/Asylum
    2. Bobby & Sue Bates
    3. Hi folks, I just recently learned that my g-g-grandparents had been long term residents of the Center Twp. Poor Farm (Asylum) in Lake Co. It would appear that my g-g-grandmother, Mary SCHWICK died there between 1910-1920 and her husband, Antone, probably died after 1920 as he is still listed there for the 1920 census, age 84. Does anyone have any information on this place or know of anywhere that I can locate records for the residents? ANY information would be greatly appreciated as I live in a remote area of TN and this type of info is not readily available. Thx in advance! Best, SueB

    1. [INLAKE] RE: JONES - BROWN - McCALLUM
    2. Hi list, I am hoping someone can help me solve this mystery on my grandmothers side. My grandmother was born in Prescott, Michigan, her name at birth was Frances Louise BROWN. Her mother was Daisy Mae McCALLUM (BROWN)> At sometime they did move to Indiana, but, I do not know if her mother or other siblings followed. The mystery I need help is Daisy's mother. I have pictures with little information on them. Here is what I have: The information on the picture is that her first name was Lydia. Lydia's 1st marriage was to a Pete JONES. 2nd marriage was to someone named Chapel, does not say if this is a last name or first name. 3rd marriage was to a William BROWN. Lydia had children with Pete JONES, who were: Emma JONES, who died in Florida an old maid.> Flora Bell JONES & Hattie JONES ( Hattie is my 2nd g grandmother). Hattie married a Charley Heath who drowned, I would like any information on that drowning also. Hattie later married a William Murry BROWN. In another picture of her I have the name Laffie and Liddy Jones. Not sure is this is another child of Lydia's. If any of these names sound familiar please contact me. I am willing to scan what pictures I have and share any info. Thanks and God Bless Pam

    3. Hello, I just picked my children up from their elementary school on Oliver and drove the two blocks home to get your email. I called downtown and they told me that the 2100 block of S. Oliver is in the Southeast High School Dist. Now I don't know how long ago you are talking about, I know back in the 50's their were allot less High Schools and allot of people in this area went to East. Southeast is by no means a new school so that is probably the best bet. 1. [INLAKE] Newspaper Article
    2. Greetings All, I am in search of an article that appeared in The Chicago Defender on Saturday, May 20, 1944. It is written by Langston Hughes. It is quite a long article intitled: "Ft. Huachuca Hospital One Of Nation's Finest". It included a picture of 2nd Lt. Olive Lucas. I only have bits and pieces of the article, for whoever made the copy I have was kind enough to include folds ;-) which means some parts of it are missing. A fellow Chicago Genealogical Society member checked the Chicago edition and could not find it. He suggested that it might have appeared only in the Gary, Indiana edition. I would like to re-publish this article in its entirety in the Copper State Journal, the quarterly of the Arizona State Genealogical Society. (Fort Huachuca is in southern Arizona.) Is there someone on this ListServ that has access to past issues of this newspaper and can copy the article for me and send it to me? As the ListServ will not accept attachments, please send it to my personal e-mail address. If you can only send it via snail-mail -- just let me know and I'll send you my postal address. Your help is greatly appreciated and if there are any costs incurred by you, I'll be glad to reimburse you. Regards from the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, Barbara

    1. [INLAKE] RE: SKINNER
    2. Hi List, thanks for everyone's help on finding some of my SKINNER clan. I am going to try and finish what I have tonight, since it may be the last chance I have before we leave for vacation on May 2. Sorry for all the postings but it is easier to just send out one mailing. So I am putting out an SOS for some help on a few names: 1. I need the parents of John Richard SKINNER b. 1808 in Bakersfield Franklin County Vermont who married a Emily Ward Reid. I have info on John and his family but have been able to link him to someone on my tree. 2. Confusion on my Truman SKINNER b. ca 1825: he is shown being married on the 1880 Census in Valparasio Porter County Indiana to a Nester and with 8 of the children's names are listed.. But in a 1850 Census he is shown to be married with the spelling of his first name Trueman b. ca 1825 and a wife named Sarah Johnson living with it looks like his sister Harriet. Could Nester be a nickname? The Porter County Indiana Marriages has a Truman Skinner married to a Sarah Johnson on 16 Oct 1849. I have tried to find out information on Nester to find out if this might be a second marriage. Can anyone help? 3. I am still trying to place a link on my tree to a Stephen L. SKINNER who is the son of a William H. SKINNER b. 6 Dec 1809 d. May 1850 buried at the Hopewell Baptist Church, Perry Co., Ohio: married a Matilda Debolt. William H. SKINNER father is Robert SKINNER b. 1772 d. 1856 and mother is Elizabeth Spencer b. 1776 d. 1850. Here is where I am stuck.. Who is Robert SKINNER parents? 3. Ray SKINNER and Josephine NORTON of Chesterton Gary Inidana.... Who is Ray SKINNER's parents? I know of one son, a Robert Roy SKINNER is. He was b. 23 Aug 1931 in Walkerton Gary Indiana. If I can find a connection that links these 3 to my SKINNER clan tree, I will have no broken links for now.. Hope someone can help me out before 2 May.. thanks and God Bless. Pam in Kentucky

    1. [INLAKE] My status
    2. Hello all, Well...my spare computer has finally died. May it rest in NONpeace! :) Been working on it all last night and tonight and still cannot get the original modem, or the New modem, to work....among other errors. Right now Im signed on to aol as a guest from someone elses computer, hoping to buy a new one (number 4 since I started handling the Lake Co and Nwigs sites) at Best Buy tomorrow night and be back to full speed by saturday night if everything sets up the way it should...keep in mind how that goes sometimes! To NWIGS: I should have the meeting updates on the NWIGS site by Sunday. I was able to save them to disk before the crash, but the ftp program with the password is on the other computer and in a zipped disk file....so it cant be uploaded quite yet. To Lake Genweb users: If you've submitted anything...check the site in about a week or so, some emails in my folders on the other computer are inaccessable and you may have to resubmit, but I will do what I can to copy everything over. Please dont flood me with emails for the next few days, I will do what I can to get everything up soon. I apologize for any inconvenience. Kathy Huish -your webmaster and listmaster

    3. Can someone give me a little insight. When someone posts a surname.......and someone gives a response......oftentimes people say "send the information on the given surname to my home email" Is it not true that if we post the response with the information on the surname to the Inlake sight that it will remain in the Archives and those looking for any information in the future can find it on this site? So......wouldnt it be better to post to the site? Any info would be appreciated. cheryl BALOG wenberg san diego

    2. A big THANKS to some special people who has helped me put some missing SKINNER 's on my tree. I believe they know who they are. In learning from them I hope I can be as informative and as generous as they have been to me in helping someone else one day. I am still learning the ropes. Thanks again all. I am narrowing it down for now, then I will get it all organized when I get back from vacation. So I might have to start on a new name while I get the SKINNER's organized so I can see where to go next with them. 1. Still looking for the Parents of Stephen SKINNER who was born in OHIO on 1 May 1833 and died 29 Nov 1913 in Porter Indiana. He married a Mariette WILLY who was also born in OHIO. They are listed in the Liberty, Porter Co. Indiana 1880 Census with all children being born in Indiana. There are 2 SKINNER's that married into the BULL clan name. I believe one is Stephen's daughter Elma E. SKINNER and it's possible that his other daughter Rebecca SKINNER did also. Can anyone help here? 2. I still have not found out who Robert Roy SKINNER is who was born 23 Aug 1931 in Walkerton, ? I think that is in Indiana. He died in Chesterton Gary Indiana. His parents are Ray SKINNER and Josephine NORTON. Can anyone help me here? 3. Looking for the parents of John R. SKINNER and John himself b. in Bakersfield Franklin Co. Vermont d. in 1849 in Valparasio, Porter County Indiana. He married on 20 June 1830 to a Emily Ward REID b. 27 March 1806 in Townshed Windham Co. Vermont. 1. [INLAKE] RE: SKINNER
    2. Hello everyone, I am stuck on a few names and wonder if someone can help me out? I am leaving on May 2 for Florida and would like to connect some SKINNER names to give to my sister who is also doing a tree. I called Vitals in Porter Indiana and got some information on Samuel Springer SKINNER death certificate he was b. 16 July 1824 in Cattaraugus New York d. 8 Aug 1903 in Valparasio Porter Indiana.. Samuel has siblings, the ones I know is Truman, William & John N. SKINNER. The lady said there was not anything on the death certificate for information besides his fathers name, no mothers name. The Fathers name is John SKINNER. Does anyone have any kind or record or articles that mention his parents? I did a search for the 1860 Census and so did some people who are more experienced than I. A Samuel SKINNER and a John SKINNER show up on the 1860 Census in Cattaraugus County New York > Township>Hinsdale page 107. I tried to get to page 107 from ancestry.com.. but sometimes I wonder about that imaging stuff, it takes me about 2 minutes to go from page to page and there's 54 pages. You can't make out the page number so I spent an average of 20 minutes for nothing. the last page was empty.. So if anyone can get a nice copy or email it to me so I can see if these two are related it might fill in my gaps.. Also I have a Stephen Leroy SKINNER, I don't know who his parents are Need the parents of John R SKINNER b. in Bakerfield Franklin County VT who married a Emily Ward REID b. in Townshed Windham, VT they both died in Valparasio Porter Indiana had a son DeForest Leslie SKINNER.. And information on a Robert Roy SKINNER from Chesterton Gary Indiana b. 23 Aug 1931 in Walkerton I guess that's in IN. His parents are Ray SKINNER and Josephine NORTON. I was hoping somewhere there would be information on the parents and Robert SKINNER. Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks and God Bless Pam

    1. Re: [INLAKE] Re: Lake County Courts-my problems
    2. I think the courthouses story to me was that they were sent to Indianapolis, but they didnt know where. I called some clerks office down there and they told me some were at Superior court in Hammond...which "some" are...the guy there let me look through the microfiche that theyre on, but I didnt find who I was looking for. There was another courthouse (regular clerk I think) in Hammond that had "some", but I forget what happened there. There's also "some" at the Lake county library in Merrillville...supposedly the ones that were at the courthouse were copied by NWIGS before being sent down state. In the Indiana room they have an index book, if you find the name there you ask (at reference desk) to copy the book/page number and someone will help you...the actual records are kept hidden in the employee holding room. Supposedly there are also "some" in Gary...but the guy who worked at the Gary library reference desk for years was really intrigued by my question and Im to call him back if I ever locate those. And the clerks down there wanted nothing to do with me, they're who told me to call the library reference desk. Lake county is also the worst place for all types of records because cities keep some of their records...if you want birth/death/marriage for Hammond /Gary/East Chicago...you have to go to the respective city's clerks office or health dept and fight with them personally...and I think a DNA sample is needed at the Gary Health dept to get a birth/death certificate....ok, just kidding, but it seemed like it when I tried getting my grandfathers death certificate. In Hammond I went to get a 100 yr old death record for someone, had to lie saying I was related, give as much info as possible, pay them $15...the lady took the info to a little secret backroom and came out 15 min later with her handwritten certificate that she copied from the books. The maiden name doesnt exist...I searched everywhere, there's no such name...did the lady copy the name wrong? Was it because old handwriting is hard to read? Could I have figured it out? I dont know, I wasnt allowed to view the record. So....this is pretty much some of the many reasons I am phasing out my lake county lookups and dread getting any requests for info from the Lake County Genweb page. I feel bad, but I got nuthin to work with here!
