1. [INLAKE] once again
2. Please read! I've been down this road before, but no body listens. Naturalization records Only one comprehensive name index to Indiana naturalization records is available - An Index to Indiana Naturalization Records. This book, published by the Indiana Historical Society, consists of names compiled by WPA researchers from county court order books, which are the ledgers and volumes containing the records of all court decisions; it does not include names in naturalization record books, which were specialized volumes containing only naturalization records. Court order books are considered critical records and must, by law, be retained in the county of origin; accordingly, the county clerk of court is the only source for records listed in this index. Naturalization books were not always considered critical records and some counties did not maintain or preserve them; of those that survive, a significant percentage were transferred to the State Archives, but others are still kept locally. No overall and, in many cases, no specific name indexes are available for them. Patrons can contact the State Archives about all these records, but they should keep in mind the distinction between the two. Very often, confusion about the location of the court order books arises, but the law is quite clear on the issue - copies must be retained locally, so the county clerk of court is the only source of information on records listed in An Index to Indiana Naturalization Records.

1. [INLAKE] plea for help from lake county listers
2. Hello, I am looking for someone in the area that would want to be a volunteer to do courthouse lookups (or any other lookups) in Lake county. I would like to get the Volunteer Lookups page going....plus I get requests a lot to do them and I won't deal with the courthouse. I've never had any luck with them, and hate telling people that I couldn't get anything for them...but if you have had luck here, and are interested in helping others with ancestors in our county, please please let me know. There is a huge need here! Here's another one I got today: "I tried requesting that the court house look up said marriage record, but they wrote back saying that they weren't staffed to do look ups. " If interested in being a volunteer, email me with "Lake co volunteer" in the subject line: Kathy [email protected]

1. [INLAKE] Smith, McCallum, McGlaughlin, Brown, Turner
2. ****Still trying to put together information on my g grandmother Daisy Mae BROWN. She was born in Michigan. She married 1st James S. McCALLUM who was born 11 Jan 1865 in MI and died 31 Dec. 1818. I have 2 different versions of Daisy and James, 1: is that he died and Daisy remarried 2: is that they divorced in Hammond Indiana and Daisy remarried. Anyone having information regarding them please email me. ****Also looking for James S. McCALLUM parents and siblings. I believe his mothers maiden name was SHARP or SHARPE who I was told was born in Ireland. I do not have his fathers name. If anyone can make a connection please email me. ****Now, she is Daisy M. McCALLUM who married a Nathan Oliver SMITH born April 08, 1882 in Delaware, DELAWARE, OH, and died May 08, 1955 in Montgomery, BALDWIN, AL. He is buried in Mobile National Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama. Nathan 1st was married August 22, 1908 in Delaware County, OH. to a Synthia Donaldson and had 1 son and 1 daughter who died a few days after birth and then Synthia died 1 week later. Daisy married Nathan, maybe in MI or possibility is Hammond, IN. Would like to find out more on Nathan's parents and siblings. Please email me if you have a connection. ****Daisy and Nathan divorced and she married a Grant McGlaughlin I believe in Indiana. She had at sometime moved to Indiana. So did her sister daughters Agnes McCALLUM (SMITH- Nathan may have adopted her) and Frances McCALLUM (SMITH - Nathan did adopt her) and Mary Ellen McCALLUM (SMITH-Nathan may have adopted) who married a Kenneth J. HARTLERODE. Mary died in an automobile accident and Daisy raise her son. There was also a James Murray McCALLUM (SMITH- Nathan may have adopted) and Marguerite McCALLUM who died in infancy in 1918 and the last of the children as far as I know. Anyone having a connection please email me. **** One more thing, my grandmother Frances Louise McCALLUM -SMITH married a William Harry SKINNER. They had 1 daughter, Mary Ellen SKINNER-my mother. My mother married a Robert Wade TURNER who is my biological father. I was born in Hammond Indiana. I know that he lived there after the divorce for sometime, but also live in Whitley, Gary, Hessville Indiana. I believe he remarried but to who I do not know. I also think he may have had other children and may have adopted some from another marriage. I have been unable to find any information about this. He died young. If anyone can make a connection to this one please let me known Thank you for all of you help. It is greatly appreciated. I think sometimes this is not said enough. God Bless Pam

2. Thank you to everyone who respnded back to my question of LKWE from the 1860 census. I found who I was looking for, namely, a David Benjamin. His name was spelled Benjimine though, so it made it a bit harder to find. Does someone have access to the 1870 Indiana census index who could see if he is listed? I would really appreciate it. thanks again to a very helpful list, Maureen
