Once again I find myself getting more and more information. With the help and generosity of Dave I got a copy of my grandfather's first marriage. I found today on the Internet her full name along with birth and death dates. I also learnt that she had remarried and moved to another state California. Which would make it her 3rd marriage. The information on the Internet had it as her first marriage. On the copy of the marriage license I have, it has her as having been married once before, divorced in 1931, I would like to find out to whom. The information I found on the Internet was from a Louis Schwartz, email address was [email protected] and showed an update of Nov. 1 2001. But the email I sent was sent back. So I guess he no longer has an email or has had it changed. Her name is Jane Dextor BILBO. She married my grandfather - pregnant - on Dec. 2, 1933. They divorced in 1934. Jane then married, for the 3rd time to Werner "Jack" George MALTE on Jan 5 1935 in Montrose, Penn. They moved sometime to Thousand Palm, California where they later died. Prior to Jane's marriage to Werner she gave birth to a son while married to my grandfather William Harry SKINNER. It was said to be his in one story and another told by him was that he felt sorry for her and it was not his and just married her to give the child a name. In either case I am sure it was his. I would like to find out the name of the son born in that time span of Dec 1933 to 1934 . If any of the information above sounds familiar at all please contact me. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share what I have. God Bless Pam
Hello List, I have an ancestor, named Hiram Furman (1821-1894), who was a Civil War veteran. He died in 1894 in Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, but he was buried in Crown Point, Lake Co., Indiana. I am trying to discover the name of the cemetery where Hiram Furman is buried. Reportedly, his son, Sidney H. Furman, was buried in Crown Point and Hiram was buried in the same cemetery. Hiram's wife, Betsey POTTER Furman, may also be buried near him. Could someone do a look-up for me, to see if Hiram Furman (and son) are listed in one of the primary cemeteries of Crown Point? If that's not possible, can you tell me the most efficient way of finding the place of interment for a veteran buried in Crown Point? Paul Newell Ellicott City, MD

>From Marlene at the Genealogy Society: The Northwest Indiana Genealogy Society has indexed and copied any Naturalization that were in Crown Point. The society does sell the index. The copies of the Naturalization are kept at The Lake Co. Library in the Reference Department. The index and books of Naturalization can be seen there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inlake/public.htm <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~inlake/public.htm">Publications</A> And if you purchase their books, you could be a great asset to others like yourself, who are searching for ancestors in Lake County, by doing volunteer lookups! We have a great need here. Kathy
Hi All Just wanted to make sure that I thanked all of you for the response I received on my inquiry: Just found relations who lived for a time in Whiting. My question is, what would make an immigrant move to Lake county IN? Obviously there could be other relatives there but I don't think that is the case here, but possible. I know that Standard Oil was a big employer but what else was around about 1903-1914? I'm looking for Krecelich/Krcelic, they were from Yugoslavia or Hungary. I did see an "American Slovak Club", does anybody know anything about them and where possible records can be obtained? Your answers were very helpful, and I thank you all for taking the time. Sincerely Sue K.

The time frame you stated includes the period when NW Indiana was starting to develop as a major industrial center for the U.S. Gary became a city in 1906, I believe. Of course, its major employer was the forerunner to U.S. Steel. Many Eastern and Central Europeans came to the area to work in the steel mills. Also, your relatives living in Whiting could have found employment in the Chicago area as well. There are a number of good books at various local libraries which describe NW Indiana's growth in the early 20th Century. Is there anyone in Crown Point Indiana that could do a lookup for me? I need to find when/where my parents were married, for joining an Indian tribe and the Dar. The groom's name: Willson Dorr Bradley, the bride was Lucille Joyce or Lucille J. Perry. She was married previously, and was divorced Oct 1932 in St. Joseph County in Indiana. I have checked WI, IL, and MI and found nothing. Considering the fact she was the typical 'school teacher', they must have been married SOMEWHERE between Oct 1932 and June 25, 1936 when my older sister was born. If I can do any researching for you in Texas or Michigan, please let me know. Thanks, Janet
Who would I write to for a copy of a Lake County will? I am told Phoebe WILSON's will is recorded in record book "C" page 152. Is there a town office or court that would supply me with a copy by mail, or do I need to hire someone to look it up and copy it for me? - Rich Holmes

But....not ALL lake co naturalizations are there. Some are held in Hammond at one courthouse, and some are at the Superior Courthouse in Hammond I think. Gary doesnt know where there's are. The two sites in Hammond...now those arent in the index at the library by the genealogy society, theyre on microfiche at the courthouses....and the two courthouses have totally seperate records. Just like birth/death records...how here a few towns kept their own (East Chicago, Hammond and Gary...you have to go to those respective health dept's to get them) but the rest of the county's records are in Crown Point...even if you get a clerk that says theyre not. The Northwest Indiana Genealogical Society some years back photocopied all available naturalization records for Lake and Porter Counties held in those counties and published an index to these records. These copies, while owned by the Society, are kept on file at the Valparaiso Public Library in the Genealogy Department. The department also has the indexes. I don't know the current charge for these photocopies. Keep in mind that early naturalization records usually only contain the name, age, date and place left from and to what ruler they owed allegiance. Only when you get closer to or maybe after 1900 will you get any more detailed information. The library is located at 103 Jefferson St, Valparaiso, IN 46383 _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
