Loretta, I talked to the older brother too last night. He surprised me by returning my call. But neither of them are my mother's half brother. The dates are not close to the 1934 plus the son I am looking for was born in IN. These 2 MALTE men were born in New York and the oldest was born in 1936.. None had ever had a last name change and never heard their mother (Jane) mention any other marriages. He said it must be skeletons in the closest. They did not even know their mother was ever married before.. 2 times.. so my search begins all over again. Back to East Gary, IN. Some possibilities I came across were the baby boy could have died, or she miscarried. Or maybe it was put up for adoption. Weird how my grandfather married her when she was pregnant in Dec. 2, 1933 then had of divorced sometime in 1934 or early 1935 because my grandfather remarried to a Frances Smith who ended up being my grandmother and had my mother in 1937. I was told that even though Jane and my grandfather were divorced, Jane was still invited to family gatherings and my grandmother was not. HMM guess it was a friendly divorce. Then again my mother said that my grandfather said he only married her to give the baby a name. It does make you wonder, doesn't it. So I assume that she (Jane) was at least 2 months pregnant when William SKINNER and Jane Dexter BILBO had gotten married in Valparasio, Porter County Indiana. My grandfather worked at the Postal Office in East Gary Indiana. I can only assume he was living in that area at the time of the birth. I wonder, can I check any hospital records for birth since I don't have the son's name? All I have is the parent's name and an approximate year of birth. What would you suggest? Do you know of anyone who can shed some light on this one? God Bless Pam

Thanks, I am familiar with ancestors from Ohio County. I have not heard of Fordsville though. But if it is closer to Owensboro that is why. The information I gave is that I was going on what my uncle had told me. Supposedly he was raised there, had married someone name Phyllis McCallum in Hammond, Indiana, according to uncle. They divorced and he moved back to Fordsville. He does not know if he is alive or not. He may even have the last name spelled wrong and the age. He was the son of Mary Smith who married an Moffatt / Moffitt? Divorced him and married Jim McCallum or if his step-dad adopted him, which I think he did then his last name would have been Smith. Robert was supposedly Jim McCallum's son. But she left him and went back to the Moffitt man and he finished raising him. So it is believe he took on the last name Moffatt/ Moffitt. God Bless Pam
My uncle is looking for his relative and says he is in Fordsville, KY. Does anyone know where this place is? Looking for a Robert MOFFATT, age about 73 - 75 ish. He was supposed to of been married to a Phyllis McCallum at one time, probably in Hammond,Indiana. Divorced and moved to Fordsville, KY. God Bless Pam

This is in regard to the cemetery below this email...I wrote to Doris Siroda, the person who has actually walked all the cemeteries in Lake County for the NWIGS cemetery books, and asked her about the cemetery below. She had this to say: "Actually if you look in the Center Township of Lake County Book we have it listed in there. They moved some of the stones at least to a corner at 131st & Fairbanks including the Revolutionary War Veteran. They made kind of a memorial corner for them, I am not sure all of the people got buried but we did find it there and included the information in that book at the Library." The reading that I put on the cemeteries page was done in the 1950s, I dont know the condition of the cemetery right now...but hopefully I will make a trip to see for myself over the next couple weeks. I'm curious to see the place as well. I wouldnt stir up anything just yet though as they may have already done something for this soldier years ago. The reading was done by the DAR...and they mention a bronze plate mounted there. What more could be done? What has been done? I don't know. I'll let you all know after I have been there. Kathy
Request all DAR members of this list contact the President General of the SAR and explain the desecration of this patriot's remains. Suggest DAR contact their headquarters. I am forwarding your email to the President General. Bill/SAR #148196
Hello all, Just wanted to let you know I've been busy again and just added more cemeteries and ship passenger lists: - Sturdevant Cemetery, Dennis Ground (also Granger's buried here) -West Point (Taylor, Warriner, Lilly) and our only Revolutionary war soldier...sad story though "The story concerning the disapearance of the stones from this cemetery is that property became more valuable for business than as a cemetery. As a consequence either the county Commissioners or the Township Trustee or both condemned the area as a cemetery, allowed the stones to be thrown over the bluff into Cedar Lake, and permitted businesses to build on the site. " -McCarty Family Cemetery (McCarty, Young), only 2 stones found on the DAR reading in the 1950s (out of 25-30 burials), I dont know the condition of it right now. Also the burial of a now unknown Mexican War Soldier.
