The Steve Morse Ellis Island Site is back up and running!!! If you go to the site .....you can click on the "short form grey" Just type in the name of the village that you are researching, and you will get every name that came thru Ellis Island during that time period. IT WORKS GREAT !! cheryl BALOG wenberg san diego
I had ordered an obit for July 1920 and this was on a side column. Thought someone might enjoy it....or maybe find an ancestor. Society Column Miss Clara HOGAN was hostess to a group of friends at a delightful party last evening at her summer home at Aetna. The HOGAN'S have taken a house at Aetna until their cottage at Miller is completed, and furnished an ideal place for the party. A large airy room with plenty of windows and a nice breeze was the best possible place for a dance on such a hot evening, but even there it was a little too hot for continued dancing. The dance was to be a program affair, but on account of the heat, the dancing was made informal and the guests were able to cool off on the large veranda between dances. Japanese lanterns , flowers and ferns were used in the decorating of the ballroom. Among those present were Misses Gladys HANCOCK, Bernice WILSON, Marjorie CLARK, Martha HAMMOND, Margaret DALE, Marjorie HALL, Irene DILLEY, Sylvia TITTLE, Louise WOOD, Clye BARBOUR, Louise HOGAN and Roy SMITH, Sanford ALDRICH, Harmon WARD, Renner STIMSON, Rundell WOOD, Ross SIBLEY, Glen REARICK, Laurence TITTLE, George DUNLEAVY, Floyd KELLSTROM, Elwood GLUECK and Frank QUINIAN.

I found the family I was looking for in the 1930 Census on Cleveland Street, but at a different address, The address I thought they lived at was not to be found, as the numbers did not run up that high. Does anyone know if the street addresses in Hammond were renumbered since 1930? John
Did you know that if you find one of your surnames on the Ellis Island Wall that you can email them and they will give you the name, date and address of the submitter. cheryl BALOG wenberg
If there is anyone out there on the Lake County list that had family that came from Beaver County Pa. to Lake County, I happen to have the Delayed Birth Registration Index. Records are from 1872 to 1905. Delayed Birth Certificates were authorized by a law passed in Pa in 1941 to provide proof of birth for persons who were born prior to 1906 and who needed this information in order to apply for benefits under the Social Security Act. cheryl BALOG wenberg san diego

Also beware of: Attachments you are not expecting from someone, even someone you know. I'm not sure if the spam mailers are grabbing our email addresses off of Rootsweb or what, but a few of us have corresponded with "HUH??? what is this??? Did you send me this???" If an unexpected attachment comes, even from someone you know, DO NOT DOWNLOAD it! Instead, hit reply and ask "HUH?? What is this??? Did you send this??" like the rest of us have been doing. Wait for their reply before you download and make sure they really sent it. ALSO beware of: Genealogy Experts, Genseekers, Genlocator, Family Discovery (ALL are one scam artist) who will tell you they have info for you...make you pay for membership to their site which is nothing more than links to GenWeb databases! Their "library" is links to data that all of us have posted...and dont even think theyre not going to charge you after the 5 days...see the Google link below. They're scanning rootsweb boards for our email addresses. Click here for some articles on them: Google Search: genseekers scam Example of their email: KathyHuish, We Have Information Pertaining to your family! I've "rescued" an old photograph of Warren SHARPLESS who is identified on the photograph as "Amy's husband". The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Warren appearing to be in his 40's at the time. It is an interior photo with many family photographs in the background. I'm told that Warren Mendenhall SHARPLESS b. in Chester Co., Pennsylvania was the son of Elias Moore SHARPLESS and Phebe H. PHILLIPS and married Amy GRAY in Crown Point, Indiana in 1912. The couple divorced in 1917 and Amy returned to her family in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
