Twin City News The Hammond Times Monday July 8, 1935 Social and Personal News of East Chicago GARDEN PARTY ENJOYED The members of the Women's World League for Hungary enjoyed a lovely garden party Sunday afternoon which was held at the home of Mrs. William FUZY, of Forest Avenue, Hammond. During the afternoon a short business meeting was held at which time the members discussed plans for a private picnic to be held at Washington Park on August 4th. In the evening members were joined by their husbands and guests for a delicious buffet supper, after which cards were played. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Ann VARADY, Mr. Julius KRAYNAK and Mrs. Nick BALOG. Mrs. Julius KRAYNAK was general chairman of the party and she was assisted by Mesdames Frank BOKORY, Michael ROHN, Steve SIMKO, Thomas KOCSIS, Alex GAUL, Charles SABO, Mrs. Mary KOTVASZ and Miss Mary BOZE. cheryl BALOG wenberg

    3. SHARLIKE, Julanne Daughter of Susan (SZENDI) and Louis SAKO Julanne "Jay" SHARLIKE, 94 of Gainesville, formerly of Interlachen, died Sat. Feb. 1, 2003 at Park Meadows Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. She had been a resident of Interlachen for 32 years having moved from East Chicago, Indiana. She was a homemaker who loved gardening and taking care of her yard. She also enjoyed helping her late sister, Pearl Grow, with her chickens. She was preceded in death by her husband; John SHARLIKE. Surviving are a son: Jack Bruce SHARLIKE, Palatka; adopted daughter who was a loving caretaker of 16 years; Dorothy HAAS, Interlachen; and a nephew by marriage; Jackie LEE and spouse Rita SHARLIKE, Colombus Ohio. With the couple at the time, were the grooms sister and brother in law, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Crontz, who stood up for the reading of the vows; the brides sister and brother in law, Mr. and Mrs. John Kundrat, with whom she has been making her home at 3701 Alder Street; the brides brother, Edward and her brother in law, Steven Ponovich. For her marriage the pretty bride wore a smart green suit furred in red fox, which shade she carried out in her accessories. Her corsage was of sweet peas. Mrs. Crontz had a chic ensemble of beige and brown. Returning to East Chicago the couple received blessings from the brides father, Alfonse Polk and the grooms parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Balog of 4836 Melville Avenue. Later in the evening 25 relatives enjoyed a wedding dinner at the Balog home. The newlyweds have left for a weeks honeymoon in Michigan and upon returning will reside with the grooms parents. Mr. Balog is employed at Lever Brothers, having attended Washington High School. His bride has been a popular local telephone operator.
