    1. Histories of Noble County, Indiana--and others
    2. In response to a query in the Noble County list, here's some useful information for all four counties. I've copied this to the Noble, LaGrange and Steuben county lists, but am not a member of the DeKalb county list so I cannot post there. there.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - ------------------------------ Two compilations of historical information include Noble County. One is: "Counties of Lagrange and Noble, Historical and Biographical". 441+502 pages (F. A. Battey: 1882) reprinted 1993 by the HIgginson Book Company in Salem, MA and selling for $95--as of a few years ago. The second is: "History of Northeast Indiana: Lagrange, Steuben, Noble & DeKalb Counties." ed. by Ford, Stevens, McEwen & McIntosh. 2 vols. 612+463 pages. Originally published in 1920, reprinted by the Higginson Book Company in Salem, MA and selling for $105. What's fun about the second one is that Noble and Lagrange County researchers may discover reports about grandchildren of people in the first volume! Now those are steep prices--but the material is printed on archival paper which would last longer. If you have family in one of these books and can afford it, it's worth your while. (Higginson's can be reached by e-mail at higginson@cove.com; I believe they also have a website.) However, I suggest that you check your historical society if you wish to see pages in these books without paying the cost for purchasing the reprinted version. I know the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne has the second one on its shelves--and may have the first. I don't know whether these books have been microfilmed and found their way into the LDS FHC collections. Some of the Indiana biographies are also being transcribed online. I don't have the website address here, but I'm sure someone else on the list can supply the information. Be cautious with these. In addition to the typos which crept naturally into the printing of the original books, typos also exist in the transcripts. Nevertheless, good luck! I hope the above information will help.
