I have been researching my Amish Mennonite roots for about a year now and I requested an 1880 census soundex for my great grandfather Michael Stutzman. He and his family traveled quite a bit and has been a challenge tracing his moves. Anyway the 1880 census lists him as living in Lagrange Co., Van Buren Twp., city of Van Buren. I read in the history of Lagange Co. that the town of Van Buren later became Scott. Was Scott still referred to in 1880 as Van Buren or could the census taker be in err? Also is there a link or a description for the location of Van Buren Twp.? One more, does anyone know of any Amish Mennonite settlements or Meetinghouses in this area?
