    1. Hiram C. Scheffler Obituary
    2. Pati Blowers May
    3. Posted on: Lagrange Co. IN Obituaries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/LagrangeObits?read=6 Surname: ------------------------- Hiram C. Scheffler was born July 30,1857,near Greensburg,in Summitt Co.,O,.He came to Wolcottville with his parents in October 1864,where he spent the greater part of his youngman-hood days. In the fall of 1882, in company with his friend,David Shaefer(who proceded him to the spirit world several years ago)he went to Holdrege,Neb. During his stay at Holdrege he was married to Cora Samples on November 16,1890, who with their only son,Russell, are bereft of husband and father. He was converted during the revival meetings at this place in 1882 and at the same time united with the Evangelical Association,of which body he remained a faithful and earnest worshiper until his recent removal to Streator,Ill.,where he and his wife united with the Presbyterian church. Three weeks ago he was stricken with his fatal illness which baffled all medical skill and amid the constant, faithful and tenderest care he obeyed the Messenger's voice and in sweet peace sank to rest on Tuesday evening,January 3,1899, at the age of 41 years,5 months and three days. He was a man of excellent character and habits, with deep religious convictions, strictly honest and just in all his dealings, which gained the admiration of all with whom he associated. His unassuming life and perfect trust in his God is worthy of our emulation. "Someday, I know not when 'twill be, The angel death will call for me; But this I know, if Christ be near, Old Jordan's waves I will not fear." For surely--- He giveth his beloved sleep until that time When Gabriel's resounding thorugh triumphal skies. Shall summon the to wake again. The funeral was conducted from the Evangelical Church on last Friday by Revs.Hofferbert and F.L.Snyder before a large congregation of sympathizing friends. The pall-bearers were his four remaining brothers and two brothers-in-law, A.McCormick and J.D.Raber. His remains rest,as was his request,by the side of his mother in Woodland Cemetery.

    3. I have been researching the REYNOLDS family for my sister-in-law. I am trying to do this from Tennessee and it has not been easy. I would not have gotten this far had it not been for the nice people who I have contacted on the Internet. Thank you all. So far I have gotten this much: Frederick Benton Reynolds b. 3 July 1889 Burlington, Des Moines Co. IA married Esther Christiansen. He died 21 Aug 1947 Muscatine, Muscatine Co. IA His parents were James Adelbert Reynolds b. 2 Aug 1861 South Milford, La Grange Co. IN married Mary Jane Korngabel 8 Aug 1882 Burlington, Des Moines Co. IA. He died 6 Feb 1941 Burlington. From his death certificate his parents were William Reynolds and Elizabeth Schimkagust (?) The writing was hard to read on her last name. I would appreciate any additional information on the Reynolds family esp. William and Elizabeth. I have nothing but their names. Thank you, Doris Melton

    1. Need Help Identifying Mahlon Strickland
    2. Hey ya'll !! I've been very fortunate in that my grandfather has passed to me tons of different things that have been kept for generations. One of these is a newspaper clipping of the obituary of Mahlon Strickland b.1801 in N.J. and d.1883 or 1884.At the age of 82 years 10 months and 10 days. I haven't a clue as to who he is,or what his connection to my family could have been that they kept his obit almost 120 years. Also I have a studio picture of "Max Routsong" and alot of candid snapshots of her with my gr grandmother and their other friends.I believe thanks to the help of another list member that she was born in 1901 and her real first name is Maxine and that she married Clyde Lambright. If anyone knows anything about these people I would certainly appreciate hearing from you! Thank you for your help! Pati Blowers May P.S. You can see the above mentioned obit on the obituary board at www.rootsweb.com/~inlagran/
