Hello, everyone - Through one of my other websites, I have become acquainted with Lois Mauk, State Coordinator of the Indiana Pioneer Cemeteries Restoration Project. This project is collecting signatures to try to persuade Indiana state representative and senators that they have done a terrible injustice through the changes they have made to Indiana's statutes, endangering hundred of pioneer cemeteries through their action. Lois reports that in Clark County they have a cemetery which contained 80-100 graves; only 9 remain. 3/4 of the cemetery is under blacktop, having been paved over for a parking lot for a strip mall WHICH IS LEGAL under the current law. Lois also reports that they have received not one petition signee from Kosciusko Co., nor have they received any pioneer cemetery for their list in Kosciusko Co. Remembering how shocking the destruction of the Rhodes cemetery near Indianapolis was, I have signed and mailed my petition (they accept out-of-state signatures) and have nominated a cemetery in Elkhart Co. for the list. If any of you think this is a worthwhile project or know of a pioneer cemetery in Kosciusko County which is in danger, you may download the petition at http://www.rootsweb.com/~inpcrp/ Thank you.
