I've not been in Winona for five years or so, but it's a large frame structure overlooking the lake. Coplen's "Kosciusko County - A Pictorial History, Vol. I says the Winona Hotel was once known as the Eagle Lake Hotel (before 1895 or so). As I recall, the place was operated in the '50s by the Winona Lake Christian Assembly. In the late '50s and early '60s it was used as a temporary dormitory by Grace College. Another Coplen book, Kosciusko County - An Oral and Pictorial History, covers Winona in additional detail. I do not read mention of your Mr. Welch. However the cited books do list more references in their respective bibliographies. There were other hotels in Winona during the 1890-1940 period. I'm sure someone in either Warsaw or Winona has access to more records, etc. Try the 1920 census for Kosciusko Co. as well.
