There may be an error about Edwin Herbert Adams (1858-1939) of Pierceton. Family records say he had two daughters, Ruth McNair & Ethel Bradshaw and a son Maurice Glenn Adams (1898-1995 Hawaii). The exact dob given for each of the three children. However Edwin Adams was buried as "son of" which usually indicates no marriage or children. Moreover he showed up as single in the 1930 census with his unmarried sister Olive Adams. Did he ever marry or have the children attributed to him? Was he divorced? Or are they the children of his brother Charles Newton Adams? Charles is listed as having a daughter Bernice Kistenbroker. Does anyone have information about this family? Father Alexander and children Olive and Ed H. Adams attended the Adams Reunion in Whitley in 1916 and in 1917 Alexander Adams hosted the Reunion near Ridinger Lake. His children Ed H., Olive and Josie attended. If Ed was the father of the three children, they certainly would have attended. In 1918, Alex Adams was too ill to attend. No sign of Charles Newton Adams after the 1880 census. Was unable to find any of this Adams family anywhere in the country in the 1920 Ancestry indexed census (under any guise). The father Alexander Adams, his wife, son Edwin Herbert Adams, and unmarried daughters Olive Ursula and Josephine Edith Adams are all buried together in Washington Union Cem. Would anyone who can shed some light on this family please contact me. I have the above in the Adams compilation. And I want what is shown to be correct. Thanks. Janet

I have some information gathered by other family members that is not documented. I'm having difficulty verifying much of it. The biggest difficulty is linking Amos' brother Thompson to Daniel Peggs V to William Daniel Peggs to Charles Alexander Peggs (my great grandfather.) I'm told this is the line, but there seems to be little proof.

He appears to be listed in the 1880 census for Harrison, Kosciusko Co. You can find the census info on the LDS website where they now have the whole 1880 census for US, Canada and Britain. (Amos was listed as a chairmaker in the 1850 census for Kosciusko). I did not find him in the 1900 census. I don't have access to the 1890 census so the best I can guess at for his date of death would be between the years 1880 and 1900. I have Amos Pegg's wife (Hannah Polen) dying in 1872 and 4 children listed for them: Sara Jane, b. June 1837 Elisha, b. 1839 Mary A., b. 1842 THompson, 1845 In the 1880 census, Amos is listed with wife, ELZIRA, age 56, b. TN. I suppose he remarried after Hannah's death. I was able to trace daugher Sara Jane in the 1880 and 1900 censuses, but I have been unable to find any further info on Elisha, Mary A. and Thompson. Would you happen to have any information on them? I also have quite a few Poland/Polen/Polings listed in my Pegg tree and would like to know the parents of Amos' wife, Hannah. Do you have any idea who they were? Sheri Pegg

They come from Ottawa County, Kansas. Ralph married my grandfather's sister, Iona (known by my father as "Aunt Iny"). John and Mary Ann, their son Ralph and his wife, Iona, are buried in the Hall Cemetery, Ottawa County, Kansas. Ralph and Iona had 3 sons, Guy, Ray and Wayne. These 3 brothers all found their way to California, where they raised their families in the Garden Grove area in Orange County. Ray had one child, a daughter, Donna, who married Delos Summers. Every October, there is a McDonald-Reafsnyder picnic. You can meet the Reafsnyders who are still in California. There is also a family reunion in Kansas every year that the Reafsnyder's attend, but that part of the family is not related to the McDonald's, so I don't know much about that. Lola Mae (Reafsnyder) Pecor has put together a pamphlet on the Reafsnyders. If you want, I can create a GEDCOM or other format of the family tree, and send it to you. Here is the URL for family of Isaac Hartsock and Eliza Adams. They are buried in Whitley Co. Their family settled in Kosciusko and the children married there and the grandchildren were born there. Family of Isaac Hartsock and Eliza Adams http://home.att.net/~thomas.c.newman/sixth-generation-eliza2.html In compiling this Adams family, I am always curious about which person travel the farthest in their life. Catherine (Adams) Christian, wife of Richard [see Harrison Twsp 1880] was from this NY family. She died in 1925 in Hunters Stevens Co. WA. She held the prize until now. Almost every one of the descendants of Eliza (Adams) Hartsock ended up in WA, OR or California. They win the trophy of the most mobile Adams family. They were also the family who produced the most school teachers. Janet

While doing microfilm research, I copied an interesting report in the Columbia City Post, August 22, 1928, pg. 2. Does anyone on the list know who his parents were? I've added paragraphing for readability: VERY OLD MAN HERE FOR OLD SETTLERS DAY John A. Makemson, aged 92 years, of Pierceton, was one of the oldest person attending Old Settlers Day. Mayor Lloyd Crouch spied an aged man standing close to the speaker's platform, endeavoring to hear, so he invited him to the platform, only to find that the aged patriarch was but a boy of ninety-two summers. Mr. Makemson was but six months old -- but somehow, in the long lapse of years it slips his mind as to the details -- when his parents moved to Kosciusko county. That was in 1836 -- eitht years before Mrs. Catherine Walker, of Union township, winner of the longest residence cup here Thursday, came to Whitley county. Mr. Makemson is in excellent health and just now he is planning a hunting trip this fall, into the north woods. He was a very welcome old timer at the annual Whitley County Old Settlers Day and his presence is solicited for 1929. Brenda Reeg Robison Indianapolis, IN
Is there anyone on the list who remembers Mildred Terman who hosted a cooking school of the air over the first radio station KDKA, Pittsburgh?? The years were around 1930. She was sort of a Julia Childs of radio. The station was very strong and even received as far away as Iowa. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers the show. Janet (Terman) Newman
Thanks to the hard work of Tina Buchman of the Kosciusko County Genealogy Society, the Kosciusko County Delay Birth Records are now on-line at the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site. These 1264 records (1858 to 1935) list the persons name, birth date, maiden name (if given) and page number of the record. Other information on the microfilm for each individual is: father's name, where born mother's name, where born number of children to family (order of birth) person in attendance date recorded This record was often required when filing for social security benefits. Tina will do look-ups on the microfilm on behalf of the Kosciusko County Genealogy Society for a nominal fee. The Genealogy Section of KCHS held their annual dinner tonight - with a good meal and good fellowship and an especially good program presented by Marg Graham. We are proud to announce that CONNIE BLACK is our new Genealogist of the Year. Connie has been quietly helping in the library and research her own families and this past year she and her husband made a donation to the Section that allowed us to purchase the first ten rolls of microfilm for the Deed Records and the first 10 rolls of the Probate Complete Records. We will be working this coming year to index the films so that we can put the index on the GenWeb page and offer look-ups and copies. Also there was recognition of Tina Buchman, our research assistant and Idella Kauffman our library assistant. Our group has been hard at work this year and hopes that next year will be equally as fruitful.
