Hi Karen! I'll check the online information and hope someone will check city directories for me. We're also researching in Grant county. Thank you, Shirley ----- Original Message ----- From: Thomas Anderson To: unicorn1945 Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2003 3:41 PM Subject: RE: [INKOSCIU] help, please Have you tried the 1930 census? It is fully indexed and available through Ancestry.com. Family History Centers and/or gene. libraries usually have subscriptions so you can use it even if not a paid member. Maybe someone on the list from Warsaw area could check city directories for you and find out more. I live in AZ now but grew up in Indiana, used to be a resident of Kos. Co. and Grant Co. He played around the lakes area and was quite well known in probably the 30's and maybe 40's. He was also known to play in the big name places in NY city and lived there for awhile. Ross Franklin - close friend to my Paul Dickerson. I have no knowledge of his work or family connections. He and Paul were companions for a number of years. Carrie Dickerson - mother to Paul, who I believe lived with and kept house for Ross and Paul. I believe she also kept house or cooked for someplace in the resort areas. *chuckle* I understand the humidity. We had our share of water about a week ago and getting ready for more. I expect you'll be getting it as well. Thank you for that valuable info. We could waste a whole trip coming on the wrong days and it'll be good to see the lakes where our ancestors worked and played. In a prior note, I mentioned the Gregg family that came from Butler and Darke Counties. But parents and grandparents of John L. Gregg were from Preble. At least one branch of Fudge line came from Preble to Elkhart Co. to Kosciusko (Mary Fudge married Milton Judy/Juday). Their daughter, Laverna married William Gregg (son of John L.) There were Gregg/Fudge connections in both Preble and Kosciusko Counties. -----Original Message----- From: gedgell [mailto:gedgell@flash.net] Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2003 7:14 AM To: INKOSCIU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [INKOSCIU] Preble County My Edgells came from Maryland and settled in Preble County, OH for a few years. While everyone is throwing out surnames of families that came through Ohio to Indiana or visa-versa, how 'bout some recommendations regarding websites or actual research centers IN OHIO that come "highly recommended". Where is the best place to look for material on the mentioned counties - Preble, Wayne, Auglaize, Stark, Warren etc etc? I would be particularly interested in birth, marriage, death, and burial information. I ask, because I haven't found any really good places on the web to look for much needed Ohio materials. Listing those moving from OH to Kosciusko Co. is a great idea. Anyone have family that came from Wood Co.--- surname: FLAUGHER after 1872. Preble Co.-Richard Henry Merrick in 1857. Elaine Merrick
My Smith family came from Stark Co. OH. Joseph SMITH and Mary TOM had several children born in OH (Isaac, John, Caroline, William) and came first to Huntington Co. IN by about 1847. They were in IOWA in the mid-1850's where two more children were born (David Allen and Jane) then moved back to IN and were in Elkhart Co., on the 1860 census. By 1870 they were settled near Syracuse, Turkey Creek Twp. William Franklin Smith was my great-grandfather, and married Caroline RAPP in 1879, dau. of Jacob and Sophia (Starris) Rapp. I also have great-grandparents John L. GREGG (born in Butler Co.) and wife Mary Magdalene CREAGER (born in Warren Co. OH). They married in Darke Co. and settled near Milford. Their son, William went to Oklahoma to homestead but didn't stay long. Married Jessie Billiter (also from IN but then ended up back in Butler Co. to care for an elderly great aunt who lived on his grandfather Gregg's farm. -----Original Message----- From: Jemnjoan1@cs.com [mailto:Jemnjoan1@cs.com] Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2003 8:23 PM To: INKOSCIU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [INKOSCIU] OH to Kos.
