You mentioned a connection between the Lightfoot family and the Summy family. I also see that you have William Lightfoot married to a Hester Kelly. Do you know anything about Hester? I am researching a Kelly family from Kosciusko Co. The oldest child's name was Hester, but we know nothing about her. Hester's brother, William, married Sultana Summy. Another of Hester's brothers, Samuel, married Elizabeth Crouch who was the niece of Daniel Groves and Amanda Lightfoot Groves. I also see that you have James William Lightfoot married to a Huldah Stinson. I also have connections to a Stinson family in this area through the Crouch family (Elizabeth's mother was the daughter of Elizabeth Stinson). Could this really all be coincidence? I would love to find out more about the Lightfoot and Summy family, in hopes that maybe it would shed some light on my Kelly line. Jennifer

I don't expect any members of this group to be able to be there as most of you are located in other states. However, this hearing is REALLY importan= t and we need people to express their support this Bill. Otherwise, it can easily just DIE right there. HB 1522 has passed the House of Representatives and now must survive passa= ge by the Senate. The full text of the Bill and information on its status is available at: http://www.state.in.us/cgi-bin/legislative/bills/completeBillInfo.perl?bil= ln um=3D1522 This bill will add a new Section to the Indiana Code prohibiting a person from recklessly, knowingly, or intentionally damaging personal property contained in a structure or located at a cemetery or a facility used for memorializing the dead. It will add an entirely new section to the India= na Code requiring any person lawfully removing a grave marker of any description to file with the County Recorder a detailed written report and photographs of the stones and the site. It will make it illegal to buy or sell any cemetery art or artifact removed from a cemetery. It will requir= e that all grave memorials installed after 1/1/2000 must contain the name of the cemetery where the memorial is to be installed by the same process tha= t the individual's name is added. It will REMOVE the current exemption whic= h allows anyone involved in ANY "agricultural purpose" from being allowed to disturb a burial site. It will add new language making it illegal to disturb, deface or damage any cemetery monument. We all know that HB 1522 is not the "answer" to the whole crisis we are facing -- but it is an IMPORTANT first step. We will go back next year an= d try to make it even stronger. It is our hope that HB 1522 can bring about an END to the legal destruction of pioneer cemeteries in Indiana. Another new feature has been added to the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site, a site-wide search capability. In the middle of the page, you will see an entry form for the search routine. Enter a surname (or city, place, cemetery, record, etc) and it will return all of the web pages where that surname can be found within the Kosciusko County site. Enjoy. P.S. I believe actual death records don't start until 1882 for Kos. Co. but if she died after that time, there's a chance the parent's names may show on those records. Do you know if she was born in Kos. Co.? Looking for a death record for NANCY BRANT wife of DAVID BRANT. Going by census records, Nancy must have died between 1870 and 1880. Any info on her death or burial would be appreciated. I presume David is buried in Wooden Cem. with all the other Brants. Maybe Nancy is there also?? JEAN

Hi, I have already accessed the new Marriage Records and the County Farm Record. Had no problem and got some more data for my Kosciusko Co Ancestors' records. Thanks to all who helped provide this new information. Shirley Webb [email protected]
Hi Gene, Have tried several times to view your new marriage records, and each time you can see the bytes loading, but when the document done sign comes up all that is on the page is the heading. ?? Am I the only one having problems or could it be on your end. Have no other problems with other records on the Kosc. site. Sure would like to see that wonderful new info. Also, while I'm thinking of it, my computer was down most of Jan & Feb and I saw too late I presume that people could submit 5 generations of family surnames for an upcoming publication. Is it too late to get in on that. Sure hate to have my Dad's family left out since there were several generations born and raised and buried there. Regards Jean (Brant) Martinez P.O. I've added two new databases to the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site containing over 2500 additional records. Marriage Book B, covering the years 1857 to 1863, has been added thanks to the transcription efforts of Phil Ritter. Phil transcribed these records from the LDS microfilm containing the actual images of the county marriage records. An image of one of the pages showing what the records look like has also been included. This adds 1107 marriages to the site, now giving us listings of marriages from 1836 to 1863. Also added is a transcription of 4 books of records covering the Kosciusko County Farm, also known as the Kosciusko County Infirmary. Sue Zellers transcribed these records and supplied the database. You may find individuals in this database that have no other records anywhere else. Deaths, Births, parents surnames are recorded here. This is a good place to look for those individuals who seem to have disappeared. I am very grateful to Phil Ritter and Sue Zellers for their efforts in providing these valuable records. You can access these new databases from the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site at: http://user.ctlnet.com/gan155/kosco.htm Gene Andert Kosciusko Co, IN USGenWeb Coordinator [email protected] http://user.ctlnet.com/gan155/kosco.htm Listowner: [email protected]
While we're on the topic, I need help with Mary Lightfoot, who married Lanson Summy. Mary was born in 1836, but I can't find her parents. She is not the daughter of the well-known Christopher Lightfoot who was living in the Leesburg/Prairie Township area through the mid 1800s. He is even buried in the same cemetary as Mary (Clunette), so there must be some relationship, but not father/daughter. Perhaps his brother and family were passing through the area when Mary met and fell in love with Lanson. (Okay, so I'm a romantic.) Can anyone offer any help? Thanks. Jaira Hill Silverton, OR
