    3. Mr. Ritter, The Crites family, whom I said lived in Minot, North Dakota, also lived in a "Dunker" (church of the Brethren) community created by Kosciusko County folks in Live Oak, California. Live Oak is on Highway 99 north of Sacramento. Perhaps you might find other French family members in that area. Jerry Fecht Moorpark College Moorpark, California

    3. Thanks Jerry for the David French anniversary article. The Kosciusko GenWeb page has a biography posted for David's brother Ezekiel D. French. Ezekiel was married to my gr grandfather's sister. Like David, they had no children, but raised one of the wife's nieces. Ezekiel, like David, also spent a few years in CA; he was listed in the 1870 census in the mining town of Monitor in Alpine Co. in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I haven't found when Ezekiel or his wife died (maybe they moved to CA, too), but the article confirms that he must have died before 1905. 1. [INKOSCIU-L] hi
    2. Gerald Fecht
    3. I may have posted this before. If I did, please excuse me. This was among my Grandmother Leona (Weaver) Crites' memorbelia. She died in North Dakota. I thought it might belong to someone in Kosciusko County. Jerry Fecht [email protected] GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY The above picture of Mr. and Mrs. David French was taken on their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday of last week February 23 (1905). Mrs. and Mrs. French had planned for a big celebration but because of ill health this could not be carried out, much to the disappointment of themselves and their many friends who would have enjoyed spending the day with them. Mr. and Mrs. French were married on the William O’Brien homestead three miles north of Pierceton, on what is know as the Kirkpatrick farm on February 23, 1865, the ceremony being performed by Rev. H. J. Lacey of the Methodist Church. It was a gay assemblage which attended the nuptial ceremonies at the O’Brien home that day. John Humphreys of Pierceton, acted as groomsman, but as Mr. and Mrs. French say, not many of the other guests are left. David French was born in Miami county, Ohio, on August 17, 1839 and moved with his father Aaron French to Plain township in 1852. He was one of a family of eight and is the only one of the family left. Miss Sarah Elizabeth O’Brien was born on the home place north of town on September 17, 1847, being a native of the country where nearly her entire life has been spent. She was the a daughter of the late William and Mrs. Eliza Ann O’Brien. M. O’Brien was native of Piqua county, Ohio, moving from there to Logan county, and to Kosciusko County in 1842. He was a man held in the highest esteem and served in the State Legislature in 1880-81. It was at this home that the ties were formed which culminated in their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. French have spend their entire married life in this county except years spent in Bourbon and three years in California. One son was born to them 49 years ago, who died in infancy. While they have a beautiful home near Los Angeles, California, yet the association of their friends at their old home is (perferred) to the golden west and they have remained in Pierceton during the last winter. That they may decide to remain here indefinitely is the wish of their many friends.

    1. [INKOSCIU-L] Death Notification.
    2. Mimi Alexander
    3. Hi Kosciusko Co., This message is intended to give information regarding the 1989 death of Tommy Huffman, AKA JAMES THOMAS HUFFMAN, (b.Aug.24, 1919), who was the son of THOMAS HENDRICK HUFFMAN and ROXIE 'HOLLAND' HUFFMAN. His siblings were: Arthur Huffman, Eugene Huffman, and Forest Dell 'Joe' Huffman. Tommy Huffman was born in Scottsville, Kentucky, (Allen Co.), but moved to his Father's birthplace of Kosciusco Co.,(at the age of 3), after his Mother, (Roxie Holland), died in 1923. Tommy attended school in Sidney, Indiana and occasionally lived at his Grandmother's home in Sidney. His Grandmother was SUSAN MOORE HUFFMAN THAYER. James Thomas Huffman joined the Army and was at Pearl Harbor during WW-I and returned home to Sidney only briefly after the war, however he seemed to 'disappear' after about 1946. The next time I found him, he was buried at the County Cemetery in Miami, Florida! Tommy, (AKA James Thomas Huffman), died at 3:47 AM, Jan. 3, 1989, of Cardiac Arrest, while dining at a Denny's Resturant in Miami, Florida. He was taken to the Mt. Sinai Medical Center. No other person claimed to be his "next of kin", so his body was buried by the city at the County Cemetery. I never met this man and in fact only recently learned that he was connected to my own Father's side of the family from Kentucky! I came across the above information through intensive genealogical research. If anyone out there is seeking valid documentation regarding the birth or death of James Thomas Huffman, feel free to contact me. Mimi Huffman Alexander

    3. Hi, I have a situation in which I feel an "Announcement" needs to be made! The son of a long time Kosciusco Co., family, (who's lived there several generations), graduated from High School, then went to Pearl Harbor during WW-I, and returned to Kosciusko Co. briefly around 1946, only to then "disapear" from the face of the earth, so to speak! Not even his immediate family knew where James Thomas Huffman was! Through intensive genealogical research, I have uncovered the whereabouts of this person at a County Cemetery in another state! He died in 1989. It's my belief that other relatives, and/or researachers may appreciate knowing what happened to their ancestor! I have valid documentation. Mimi Alexander

    3. Hi Everybody: Be sure to watch the TV show "60 Minutes II" Wednesday night (tomorrow). There will be a segment on the Hairston family of Virginia and North Carolina. I just finished reading the book ("The Hairstons") written about this family and it was very interesting. The author (Henry Wiencek) spent many years researching the family tree of this family - both black and white - and the book tells of his research and findings. This book will be great reading for anyone interested in tracing any family who may have both white slave owner and black slave descendants. It gives a great deal of perspective and insight into how the different family members view the period of time when their ancestors were either owners or slaves - perspectives that I hadn't considered but now realize that I need to know as I begin contacting and researching the black descendants in my Allred family. The white author's "trial and error" method of contacting the black descendants of this family is very detailed and honest - very educational. Anyone wanting more info on this book, please let me know. Linda Allred Cooper

    2. Cindy, Do you have anything on Sylvester WILKINSON, b. 1850 Shelby Co, OH & resided Noble Co, IN? Father was Thomas per Whitley Co, IN 1907 history. His brother John was a resident of Pierceton, IN in 1907. Sylvester married 1871 to Amanda BELCH & had the following kids: 1. Edwin S., m. Emma Pearl BUCK & lived (1907) in Noble Co, IN; most likely father of Virgil O. listed later on as the object of my search. 2. Nettie, m. Marion RIDER & lived (1907) Etna twp, Kosc Co, IN 3. Amelia, m. Theodore CLINGMAN & lived (1907)Noble Co, IN Sylvester m-2. 1883 to Caroline HINDBAUGH & they had 8 children: Merrel, Alvernis, Arbie, Ernest, Mary, Otho, Joseph & William. Because born after 1882, these sons are all probably too young to be the father of Virgil O. born c1900. Sylvester was a member of the Church of God at Wilmot in Noble Co, IN. It's likely that one of his sons had a son named Virgil O. Wilkinson, b. 1900, who married Ruth SNAPP about 1918. Ruth, who's part of my MENZIE family, died 1919 in Kosciusko Co, IN. She's buried at Wilmot beside Everett Wilkinson 1897-1907, s/o LA & IA (do you know who they might be?). A Miss Leon Bumgartner of Warsaw attended Ruth's funeral. Hope you can help me or direct me to a Wilkinson researcher with Noble Co, In connections. Thanks. Brenda Robison Indianapolis, IN
