A subscriber mentioned having received their newsletter recently, I haven't received mine and wondered when they were mailed. I know it takes quite a while for them to work their way down Texas way due to bulk mailing. Just in case someone on the Historical Society board is reading this, I would like to see a calendar of events published for the Society for the year. If one has been published and I missed it, I apologize. At sometime in the future we plan to visit Kosciusko County and would like to plan it around a meeting or event. Thanks, Gayle Boggess

Hi Trina: I don't think this is part of my Hoppis line, but you never know. My Hoppis/us family has been in north central Indiana since the mid 1800's. But, some researchers say they came from Ohio. I haven't tried to trace them to Ohio yet, so I can't prove anything. I'm sending your message to the Kosciusko County, Indiana chat list in case someone there may be able to help you. Also, have you tried looking at your Grandmother's birth or death certificate? That should tell you where she was born/died and who her parents were. Good luck with your research. Looking for infomation on Levi Wogoman and Mary Elizabeth Mick, parents of Hayes Etta Wogoman, b. Mar 5 1877 in Syracuse IN. Bill All - Olathe KS
Hi Bill, I have a Mary E. MECK born in either 1848 or 1850 in Stark co. Ohio. She is the daughter of Hiram Meck and Catherine GALIM or possibly VANDERGRIFT. They are listed in the 1860 St. Joseph In. census. Another researcher has a Mary E. MICK married to Moses E. Hochstetler 12-26-1869 in St. Joseph Co. When I looked this marriage up in the Mormon Family History Records I found that the last name was MECK not MICK. Possibly we should compare notes to see if their is a connection. Regards John P.S. my niece lives in Olathe
I am looking for as much information as I can get on Lewis Kiger, who was a farmer living in Tippecanoe Twp., of Kosciusko County. Lewis first shows up in the 1850 census, under the name of "Kizer", they moved to Kosciusko County from Ohio sometime after the 1840 census. The census shows 6 children all born in Ohio. I have not seen the 1860 census as yet to see what spelling they have for his last name, but I do have a copy of the 1870 census which shows the spelling as Kiger and all the children have left Lewis's home. In checking the Marriage records on your website I show some of his children listed and one in particular, Sarah Kiger or as listed in the records as Kiser, married a Frederick Greider on 27 Jan 1861. They must have had a farm near Lewis's, because in the 1870 census they are listed as neighbors, if I read it right. I also have found the obit of Lewis from April 16 1885 the Indianan Republican as follows: "Death: Lewis Kiger, aged 84, an old resident of this township, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Grider, at Oak Grove, His remains were interred in Webster cemetery." Is anyone aware of any decendents of Sarah and Lewis Kiger? Thank you for any help Walter John Kiger
A cousin found an obituary for Catherine WOODDEN, 1816 to 1894, in a family bible of the Eckert family in Mentone, Kosicosko County, Indiana. It lists a daughter as Mrs. J. C. BLICKENSTAFF. Catherine WOODDEN married James WOODDEN 1852. Would like to know how she fits into the ECKERT family. We do know Eckerts and other related families are buried in the WOODDEN cemetery near Mentone. Don and Mary in Wyoming
Two new additions to the Kosciusko County, IN USGenWeb Site - Bible Records and Obituaries. From the main page of the site you can get to these two new GenConnect boards. The Obituaries have been started off with 21 Obits that have been sent to me over time (from Phil Ritter and Mary Hull). The Bible Record board contains a wonderful extract from the EDMAN Family Bible submitted by Larry Edman. In addition to the ability to read the Obits and Bible Records, you can search the pages as well for Surnames. Also, since these are open boards, please post Obits or Bible records you have in your files to share with other Kosciusko County Researchers. For Obits, please format the message to start with the Publication and Date the Obit appeared in, followed by the name of the deceased, then the body of the Obit. If you have any questions on this, please don't hesitate to drop me a message. Thx...Gene Andert Kosciusko Co, IN USGenWeb Coordinator [email protected] http://user.ctlnet.com/gan155/kosco.htm Listowner: [email protected]
Hello Kosciusko County researchers! I thought I would bounce a couple of my "puzzles" off of all of you to see if anyone can help me come up with some answers, PLEASE?! ALEXANDER George M. (W.?) ALEXANDER. George Alexander is buried in Palestine Cemetery, Kosciusko Co., IN, with the following information on his headstone (according to Lester Binnie's Cemetery Records, Vol. V): George M. 1867-1948 (arrows on the stone point to his 2 wives, one buried on each side of him) Inez, wife of George, died 16 Sept.1902, age 34-6-26 Bertha 1871-1933 In the same row, buried right before the Alexander plot are William H. EILER and his wife Ellen. Ellen Eiler's maiden name was ALSPAW (ALSPAUGH), born in Henry Co., IN 1837, she was 1st married to James R. ALEXANDER, also of Henry Co. James and Ellen Alexander are recorded in the 1860 census of Henry Co., IN, residing in the household are the following: Alexander, James, 23, born in IN Alexander, Ellen, 22, born in IN Alexander, Leonadus, 2, born in IN Alexander, William, 4, born in IN James Alexander enlisted in the military during the Civil War and died at the battle of Cedar Creek, VA. In the obituary of Ellen (Alspaugh/Alexander) Eiler, 2 surviving sons are listed (besides her children from her 2nd marriage), Leonadus and a G.W. Alexander. Leonadus Alexander is my line and I have been trying to find ANY clue about the mysterious G.W. Alexander! Is the George M. (W.) Alexander buried after Ellen Eiler (Alspaugh/Alexander) that missing son? Binnie's Records of Palestine Cem. show George's birth as 1867, which would make my assumption WAY off, but is it wrong? The other possibility is also buried in Palestine Cem.: Gilbert W. Alexander 1860-1912 (could the information I have on the 1860 Henry Co. census be incorrect and the William listed was 4 months, not 4 years?) Buried with him are a couple of children and his wife Sarah C. WARREN, died 08/04/1891, age 30-01-06. Which brings me to the 2nd part of my "puzzle." WARREN I am seeking the burial place of William and Sabre (HOLLOWAY) WARREN. I have very little information on these 2 except that William Warren was the oldest son of James (04/18/1792-02/20/1867)and Sophia (Galyean) Warren (07/27/1792-10/25/1874) who came to this county before 1850, via NC, TN, Wayne and then Henry Counties in IN, they are buried in Nichol's Cemetery. We have placed William Warren's birth at around 1815. William Warren married Sabre Holloway in Kosciusko Co. on 02/15/1852 and they had the following children, that I know of: 1.William Harrison Warren, 1853-1921 Palestine Cem.; married Antoinette DREISBACH (my line) 2.Samuel Warren, abt.1857-burial place unknown; married Clara MITCHELL and then Rachel WIDNER 3.Sophia E. Warren, 1856-1857 Old Palestine Cem. 4.Martha J. Warren, abt. 1859-burial place unknown; married Pierce ERNSBURGER 5.George W. Warren, abt. 1860, no further info known 6.Anna Warren, abt.1869-burial place unknown; married James FUDGE I have Lester Binnie's Cemetery Records Volumes I, II, V, VII, VIII, and they are not only not listed in what would be the place you would expect them (Nichol's or Old and New Palestine Cemeteries) but they are not found anywhere in volumes that I have. William Warren is listed in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 census for Kosciusko County, and then he disappears, I assume he died. Sabre (Holloway) Warren is listed in 1860 and 1870 census, in the 1880 census she is residing in her oldest son's home. My final question, for you Warren researchers, is- does ANYONE know who the Sophia E. (Warren) EILER (02/1847-03/1868) belongs to that is buried in Nichol's Cemetery? She was the first wife of William H. Eiler and is buried next to Sophia and James Warren, she is too old to be their grandchild but yet too young to be their child! Thanks to one and all, Kathy
Sorry, but my father's name was Krypciak, which was hard for people to pronounce. He changed the name to Christ when I was born in 1941. So, I have no ancestors by that name. I don't know where you live, but there is an Edward Christ in Granite City, Illinois who has done some Christ research. He told me once that he he had traced to a Max Christ who was a slave driver in Southern Illinois. He drove Chinese or Coolee slaves in the coal mines. I don't know when this was. I also don't know if Ed is on line or not. There is also a large family of Christs in the Belleville and Lebanon, Illinois area. Not much help, but all that I can offer. Hi, Jerry - Saw this request that you posted on the Kos Co. Indiana list, and altho I don't have any Kibler connections, wondered if you do any Christ searching? I don't run across that name often, and as it is my maiden name, I am researching it. My Christs come from near Heilbron by Stuttgart in Germany, and my grgrandfather Karl F.A. Christ came from his village of Windeschenbach, Kries Ohringen about 1890 to Kane co. Illinois. Just looking for any misplaced cousins! Edmund Stanton Lash was born 26 August 1862 in Harrison Twp, Kosciosko County, Indiana. I do not know who his parents were. I gave you the five children, one of which was Raymond. Raymond named his son Phillip who is still alive, who will be 80 in July. I believe Phillip told me the name Phillip is a family name. Somewhere I have Phillip's address and phone # -- let me know if you did not see the posting this morning giving that information.
