I was excited to learn that there are two books concerning the records of the Ashley Funeral Home in Pierceton. Will anyone who has book one of these records do a look-up for me? Grant Strieby used this funeral home for his mother, Mary Fordyce Strieby in Oct 1905. I am hoping that he also used this funeral home for his wife, Nellie Vantassel Strieby who died Nov 8, 1900, and is buried in Pierceton. I am also looking for Rufus VanTassel, (Nellies Father) who lived in Pierceton and died in the 1890's. Thank-you for your time and effort, Nancy

Hi Mary, Sorry to tell you, but the Probate Court Records books are gone. We have available the City Directories, however. Postage would be about $1.50, if you are interested. Mail your check and a copy of this e-mail to: Genealogy Section, KCHS P. O. Box 1078, Warsaw IN 46581-1078 The Ashley Funeral home was in Pierceton. It's not likely that they would be using a Pierceton funeral home. (On the other side of the county) I check my copy of the REED FUNERAL HOME RECORDS that the section publishes and found where Samuel Garrison funeral had been held with them. The info given: "the funeral was ordered by Andrew and Dexter Garrison. Samuel was 69 years 10 months 12 days. Died Nov. 20th 1891, Buried Nov 22, 1891 and buried in Mentone Cemetery. If the GAZETTE was being published when the deaths occurred we have the microfilm of the newspapers at the jail museum. It's likely that Mary Ettinger would be willing to look up and make a copy of the obits if they are published in that newspaper. Be sure to give her specific dates to check for. You can e-mail her at [email protected] if you want her to look for them. I think they charge a $1.00 each or something like that. She does a lot of our research for us. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 25, 1999 12:01 AM Subject: [INKOSCIU] Re: INKOSCIU-D Digest V99 #96 | I would like to purchase the following publications: | Probate Court Records Kos. I just realized that on the list of publications I mentioned the DATES of the PROBATE COURT RECORDS book (1st book listed) as November 1947-December 1850. THAT SHOULD READ November 1847 to December 1850. (not 1947). If there is anyone who wanted the records from 1947 (arther than 1847) please let me know and I can adjust your order. Dear Marge, I would like to purchase a copy of the 1888 Warsaw City Directory. How much should I send the check for including postage? June Byrne [email protected]
Can anyone help me find the cemetery where my grandmother is buried? Her name is Nellie VanTassel Strieby. The census for 1900 on June 9th for Pierceton Town shows Nellie Strieby and her sons Herbert and Ralph, living with her mother, Lorenda Vantassel. Lorenda's son Walter and a daughter Bessie were also living at this home. Nellie's husband, Grant Strieby was not listed in this census. He had just moved to Columbia City, Whitley Co. and his family had not joined him yet. On Nov. 14 1900 Nellie died of consumption in Columbia City. Her obit in the Columbia City Commercial reads: Mrs. Grant Strieby died in her home on west Market Street of the dreaded disease, consumption. Mr. Strieby is employed by C. J. Eyanson, as a coat maker, and has recently moved from Pierceton. His family joined him two months ago. The remains were taken to Pierceton, overland by C. E. Stewart, where they will be interred. Tho I have checked at the Pierceton Library, and walked through the Cemeteries just south of town, and the one about a mile North of town, I cannot locate a grave for Nellie. This has been a long time search with no success. ANY help will be greatly appreciated. Nancy Strieby Brannam Surnames: STRIEBY - VANTASSEL - FORDYCE - FENTON - HOOVER - DYNNER
