In reply to Karen Anderson and others who have asked about my Hoover line: At this point I am not sure about what line you want to call it. My Gggggg grandfather was a man named Jacob Hoover. In cir. 1798 he moved from Pa. probably Lancaster Co. to Haldimand Co. Ont. Can. and pretty much established the town of Selkirk Ont. Can. he took with him his sons and daughters and their families. The sons of Jacob Hoover were Abraham, David, Benjamin, Daniel and Christian. Jacob Sr. 1729-1810 was probably Swiss born, as the family was Mennonite. Abraham 1772-1831 had a daughter named Mary.1800-1889. Mary Hoover married Mathias Yeager 1790-1857. Mary and Mathias moved from Haldimand Co. Ont. Can. cir. 1852 to Kosciusko Co. Indiana. I believe some of the Canadian Hoovers moved to Indiana also, but at this point I am not sure who they were. I hope to know more after my research trip. The Canadian Hoover's may be related to the Hoovers who were in Blair Co. Pa. and Stark Co. Ohio. The relationship may be from brothers of Jacob Sr. who moved west from Pa. I know the Hoovers in Blair Co. Pa. were either Amish or Mennonite at that time, but I believe the Hoovers in Stark Co. were German Reformed or German Baptist. It is also possible that there is no relationship at all between the Ohio Hoovers and the Canadian Hoovers. The children of Mathias and Mary Hoover Yeager were: Magdeline 1826, Samuel 1828, Abraham 1830, Ephriam 1830,(twins) Andrew 1832, Susannah 1834, Lydia 1836, Mary 1839, Elizabeth 1841, Joel 1844. Mathias also had 4 sons from his first wife, Catherine Kestler. They were Silas, Leonard, John, and Benjamin. These 4 were born in Pa. the children of Mary and Mathias were all born in Canada. On the 1860 census the Canadian born children show a birthplace of West Canada. I hope this clarifies any questions about my Hoover line Jackie Nobles
While on the subject of newspapers, does anyone know the years that the Kosciusko Republican ran and where I might find it? I know that it was a weekly paper in 1850 and would like to find it. I live in CA but maybe there is some way I could get it on interlibrary loan from somewhere. I don't believe the FHL has it but maybe I've just missed it. Kathy Buffington Willett [email protected]
Linda, Just a note to add to Marj Priser's response, The Research Library has several microfilms of county newspapers. Marj possibly forgot that we also have the Silver Lake Record (1897-1948) and the Milford Mail Journal (originals and films). The Pierceton Record covers the years 1879-1881, 1899, 1919-1948. The Washington Township Library at Pierceton has bound volumes of the Pierceton Press for 1950 to 1972. There has also been added a small collection of Nappanee newspapers to the Research Library. Linda, The newspapers that date back the earliest to 1856 are at the WARSAW COMMUNITY LIBRARY. These are the Warsaw Daily Times, the Warsaw Union and the WarsawTimes Union, and the early newspapers called the Northern Indianian and the Indianian Republican. There are newspapers on microfilm at the Jail Museum, as well. The Mentone newspapers are there, some Syracuse and Pierceton, I think. At PIERCETON, there are the Pierceton newspapers - bound volumes, I believe. At MENTONE library there is microfilm of the Mentone newspapers. Kosciusko Co. Email Discussion List As you already know, I screwed up the address on the email proclaiming a SALE on specific Genealogy Section books. (Late in August). THEN I had a hard drive fail on me just as I was figuring out that SOMETHING was amiss with these orders. I apologize to each and every one of you who have been affected. The zip code was off by one number, sending the mail to a little town in southern Indiana (Shoals) ...and, as if that wasn't enough, I used the phone number for the post office box. (Should have been 1071, not 1078). To make a very long story short.... Shoals sent the mail back up to Warsaw and Warsaw then put it in box 1078 owned by a foreign born gentleman who runs a machine shop and who doesn't speak very much English. After talking to him twice and getting as much information as I could, I went back to the Warsaw postoffice and talked to a clerk. Using clues, we were finally able to track down SOME of the mail - at least ..all that was turned back in to the Warsaw postoffice. SOME of it MAY have gotten "throwed away", the foreign speaking man said. The good news is............ these persons have packages coming USPS Priority to them: (I am using only last names for privacy sake): LONG NORRIS SHELBY WYNCOTT ENGLE ANDERT MONTEITH WILLETT BURKETT If your name is NOT listed here... please contact me privately [email protected] and we can work it out. I still have orders for HAWLEY HUGHES WALKER WEBB GALL Again, my apologies for all of this inconvenience. Enjoy your books. Marge P.
I have added an additional 1,147 marriages to the Kosciusko County USGenWeb site covering the years from August, 1916 through September 1921. These marriages were transcribed from the LDS microfilms of Kosciusko County Marriage Books X, Y, Z and AA (film #s 1311140 and 1311141). This index to these marriage records was extracted from two pages of information for each marriage. The first page is the marriage application, which contains a great deal of genealogical information, including - for each spouse - birth date, birth location, current location, current occupation, parent's names, parent's birth location, if married before and how/when prior marriage was dissolved. The second page is the marriage license, noting when the license was issued and when the marriage took place. The LDS has microfilmed copies of the Kosciusko County Marriage Records from July, 1836 through September, 1921. The film number series starts at 1311128 and goes through 1311141. These films are another source of marriage information from Kosciusko County, in addition to requesting the records from the Kosciusko County Clerk's office. I will keep you advised as additional records are added. Gene Andert Kosciusko County, IN USGenWeb Coordinator http://user.ctlnet.com/gan155/kosco.htm [email protected] Listowner [email protected]
