    1. Re: [INJENNIN] Butlerville IN; Pls contrast 2001 versus 1840-50 & 1900
    2. According to the Jennings County History(a very informative book) , Butlerville was named by a man named John Morris who came to Jennings County in 1840. Morris had lived in Butlerville, Ohio before coming to Jennings County-therefore the name. He was a peddler who carried his goods on his back. Morris founded Campbell Township without a store or a town. Bryant Trickey lived in Butlerville, Ohio and was a friend of Morris. He followed him to that area and platted the town of Butlerville recording 41 lots on June 8, 1853. There were apparently a couple of very active sawmills and even some gold mining there. After the platting there was a general store and post office. More lots were later added and there is mention of a four mill and apparently a rail line(always a reason for development). If you would care for the complete write-up from this book, I will be happy to copy it and sent it snail-mail It's a little long to do all e-mail. Oh yes-my interest lies in the fact that Bryant Trickey was my great-grandfather. My grandfather, Mark Trickey, and my father ,Guy Trickey, were both born in Butlerville although the family of my father moved to Franklin County when my father was small(1890s). Hope this helps you.
